HandJib – a Portable Handheld Jib For Your Mirrorless Camera or Smartphone

Despite the somewhat NSFW name (just Google it and you’ll see what I’m talking about) this portable handheld device is another compelling alternative for capturing a variety of smooth and stable shots by eliminating the necessity of utilising some bulky gadgets and additional tools such as conventional tracks, dollies or sliders. The best part is that you can carry the HandJib for longer periods of time without putting too much strain on your hands and shoulders, as it’s lightweight enough and can also handle a variety of cameras weighing up to 2 pounds. So everything from you favourite mirrorless Panasonic GH4, Sony A7s, Sony A7R II, Samsung NX1BMPCC to your smartphone should fit on this device seamlessly.

Furthermore, HandJib is a 100% professional grade product engineered with the durability and precision needed for heavy-duty production usage. Here is what else we can expect from the tool.

All in all, the HandJib allows capturing stable, fluid motion shots on all 3 axes just like a traditional jib. It’s a simple product that opens up the whole world of multi-axis motion video delivering a full spectrum of motion capabilities. It’s extremely simple to use, plus you don’t have to assemble it every time you are out in the wild. It’s a neatly designed portable solution for a handful of run-and-gun shooting scenarios and situations.

The patent pending twist lock camera platform rotates between 0 and 90 degrees with a quick twist of its release knob and as we can see from the above video the results are looking quite promising as the device is capable of delivering super smooth motion shots. The HandJib also gives you the freedom to move around and experiment with different camera movements and angles that can help you to get more creative and interesting shots for your production.

The device is specifically engineered in a way that actually you do not need additional accessories for a counterweight. The construction of the HandJib is made so that your body mass stabilizes and smooths the motion of the camera instead.

In terms of physical dimensions, the HandJib is 31-inches long when its tubes are fully extended and 24-inches long when collapsed. Length is set by loosening the two twist collar clutches, extending the tubes, and tightening the twist clutches. And, by simply rotating and locking the camera platform, you can instantly shift from vertical jibbing to diagonal or horizontal tracking shots.

Furthermore, the handle grip has a standard 1/4″-20 threaded socket on the top surface in case you want to attach an additional monitor and also provides another 1/4″-20 threaded socket on the bottom for mounting to a standard tripod when required.

If you like the concept and the naming convention of the device doesn’t bother you too much, you can support the Kickstarter campaign of the team behind the HandJib by backing the project here. Some alternative name suggestions will be also highly appreciated.
