Tilta’s NextGen Nucleus-M II Wireless Lens Control System Announced

Tilta has officially launched the long-awaited second generation of its popular Nucleus-M Wireless Lens Control System.

The new mk II version enhances the follow-focus array by offering Focus, Iris, and Zoom functionalities, and it is compatible with built-in neutral density cameras and various optical designs.

At the heart of this system is the redesigned FIZ Handwheel controller, which is now smaller and more compact.

Powered by Sony NPF550 batteries, the FIZ Controller wirelessly manages the four motors for Focus, Iris, Zoom, and more, while also allowing users to adjust ISO, White Balance, Shutter Speed, and other camera settings supported by the platform.

The controller features an onboard database that can store up to 128 different lenses, providing mapped metadata for improved control.

Users can easily access this information through the FIZ’s 2.4-inch color touchscreen display, which presents an interactive menu interface.

The Handwheel is designed for ease of use, offering tactile feedback and adjustable tension, plus the option for a left-handed configuration.

This makes it user-friendly for camera assistants and operators alike.

It also includes depth mapping data, direction adjustments, torque measurements, and enhanced response times.

With Tilta’s PD 2.0 control algorithm, the system minimizes latency and boasts a rapid response time of just 0.02 seconds, ensuring a secure and reliable wireless connection.

The Nucleus-M II system is compatible with a wide variety of lenses and controllers and retains backward compatibility with earlier versions, including the Nucleus-M and Nano II.

It also works seamlessly with DJI’s lineup of RS-based stabilizers and motor controls.

Tilta has introduced a detachable Electronic Marking Disk that enhances the digital marking function for physical focus.

In digital display mode, this feature offers an on-screen overlay, allowing focus pullers to make precise adjustments to focus and depth of field.

For those who prefer a traditional approach, a manual marking mode enables the use of a Sharpie or marker.

Other notable features include adjustable handwheel damping (replacing the constant option from the original design), mark power loss memory, color-coded LED indicators, and a compact, high-torque design compatible with various gimbals, drones, and handheld rigs.

The Nucleus-M II’s custom SDK also supports third-party VR, XR, and Virtual Production integration.

Pricing and Availability

The Tilta Nucleus-M II Wireless Lens Control System Ultimate Kit will retail for $1,999. However, customers can pre-order the system for $1,299 until May 15th, saving $700. Shipping is expected to begin in May or June of 2025.
