Canon is preparing to launch its next generation of full-frame mirrorless cameras this Spring.
The EOS RS Mark III is expected to replace the popular R6 Mk. II in May and is rumored to introduce a range of new features and tools.
Here’s what we might find under the hood.
The camera will likely include a CMOS sensor similar to its predecessor, offering 24 MP resolution and support for 14-bit 6K video at up to 30 frames per second.
However, the sensor may feature a stacked design akin to that of the R3.

In terms of video capabilities, the EOS RS Mark III is believed to support XF-AVC and XF-HEVC recording of C4K video in Super 35 mode at up to 120 fps, along with 6K oversampling of C4K for higher resolution modes.
Additionally, the camera will probably allow to capture video using Cinema RAW Light.
For still images, the camera is expected to provide an electronic shutter for continuous shooting of 14-bit RAW files at up to 30 frames per second, enhanced by in-camera neural network noise reduction.
The EOS RS Mark III will likely feature the new DIGIC Accelerator to facilitate what Canon describes as “collaborative image stabilization” of up to 8.5 stops.
It will also incorporate the dual-pixel AF II autofocus system found in the R5 II, albeit without eye control and tracking.

Another anticipated update is a redesigned flip-out screen similar to those on Sony mirrorless cameras.
According to Canon Rumors, the new design will allow the screen to flip out for standard selfie configurations, while also providing up-and-down movement without fully flipping out, giving it more articulating functionality.
While there’s speculation that the new screen may feature a higher-resolution OLED design, Canon Rumors suggests there’s a 50/50 chance of this happening.
A change in screen articulation would necessitate a significant redesign, so it may be more practical to retain the proven LCD screen.

Furthermore, Canon Rumors anticipates the addition of a CF Express Type B memory card slot alongside maybe a standard SD card slot, although it may replace the SD slot altogether.
A dual CFe card slot would be surprising, so there will likely be either a big change to compete further with Sony and Nikon or Canon may simply stick with the SD card slots as in the previous model.
Finally, there are whispers of two new RF-mount lenses on the horizon, but details regarding their focal lengths remain uncertain.
We’ll likely learn more in about six weeks. In the meantime, it may be wise to hold off on any new camera purchases until the picture becomes more clear.
