With the New RS 4 Mini, DJI Upgrades the Gimbal Camera Experience

DJI has launched a new compact, handheld gimbal designed for both cameras and smartphones. This lightweight device incorporates the latest AI-driven tools.

The next-generation Ronin RS4 Mini features automated axis locks from more powerful professional-grade models and includes a new intelligent tracking module for improved camera subject tracking.

It’s perfect for mobile-centric content creators who prioritize social media exposure.

The RS4 Mini bridges the gap between social media-focused creators and professional filmmakers and videographers. It incorporates second-generation auto-axis locks that maintain the gimbal’s balance during transport.

These locks can be unlocked in just one second, allowing for quick setup and the ability to start shooting immediately.

Drawing from DJI’s flagship gimbal designs, the RS4 Mini enhances workflow efficiency and offers a steadier, more secure configuration when not in use.

This gimbal also boasts a Native Vertical Switch, enabling users to instantly switch between horizontal and vertical shooting modes.

The fine-tuning knobs and Reflon interlayers allow for smoother and more precise balancing when installing a camera or smartphone.

The RS4 Mini achieves millimeter-level precision in balancing, enabling camera operators to capture action quickly.

A standout feature of the RS4 Mini is the new DJI RS Intelligent Tracking Module, which utilizes DJI’s ActiveTrack technology.

This module can identify and track subjects, ensuring they remain framed even while on the move.

With or without the Ronin app, the Intelligent Tracking Module can effectively track a human subject up to 10 meters away, even in complex shooting environments.

Tracking is initiated with a simple push of the trigger, but users can also activate it with gesture control in Responsive mode.

An open palm waving gesture allows users to start and stop tracking, with a smooth following mode that responds fluidly as it tracks the subject.

The RS4 Mini offers an extended battery life of up to 30%, providing up to 13 hours of operating time. It supports fast charging, allowing the power cell to be replenished for an additional five hours of use in just 30 minutes.

Additional noteworthy features include a redesigned briefcase-style handle that is 20% smaller and 28 grams lighter than the current model.

The quick-release magnetic mount attaches the camera securely to the tilt axis and features a locking design that prevents loosening or falling off, ensuring peace of mind during use.

Weighing only 890 grams (2 pounds), the RS4 Mini can carry a payload of up to 2 kg (4.4 pounds), making it suitable for a wide range of cameras, lenses, and smartphones.

Price and Availability

The DJI RS4 Mini is available directly from DJI or through their authorized retailer network for a retail price of $369.

This package includes the gimbal, a quick-release plate, a custom mini tripod, an L-shaped multi-camera control cable, a USB-C charging cable, and a screw kit.

There is also a Combo Kit available for $459, which adds the DJI RS Intelligent Tracking Module and the RS4 Briefcase Handle.

All told, the RS 4 Mini eliminates the need to have a separate gimbal for shooting on a smartphone and a camera.

Through this design, users can switch between the two, with minimum setup and balancing, and save having to drag extra gear on location. It’s a win-win.
