Go Pro Updates The MAX 360 Camera with AI Object Tracking and Other Post Tools

GoPro has not forgotten the users of their popular MAX 360° Action Camera.

The 5.6K camera has received a software update that introduces several new features, including AI-powered object tracking, auto transitions, keyframing, and more.

Additionally, newer models feature a redesigned tripod mount and support for the Enduro battery system.

“MAX never misses – and that’s why it’s the go-to 360 camera for the world’s most creative athletes, adventurers, and content creators. Getting ‘the shot’ has never been this easy,” says GoPro Founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman.

“With the Quik App’s new 360 editing experience, which includes AI-powered object tracking and simplified yet powerful editing tools, it has never been this fun to turn your 360 content into shareable moments.”

While the GoPro MAX 360 Camera is overdue for a design refresh, GoPro breathes new life into existing models through what they call an enhanced “360° Mobile Editing Experience.”

The GoPro Quik app now incorporates AI-powered object tracking, allowing the artificial intelligence to lock onto a subject, keep it in focus, and ensure it remains in the frame throughout the clip.

Users can add keyframes to precisely set the camera angle and adjust the digital lens settings for the ideal shot.

With Camera FX settings, users can implement dynamic camera movements like backflips and barrel rolls entirely in post-production, eliminating the need to reshoot scenes.

ReFrame mode enables smoother automatic transitions between clips. Additionally, users can edit individual clips without affecting the rest of the video, allowing for options like adding filters, color correction, and volume adjustments for specific segments.

GoPro has also simplified the process of capturing a single-frame still to create still images.

For Premium and Premium+ Subscribers, GoPro has introduced unlimited cloud storage, enabling editing through the Quik App directly from the cloud.

Users can also use the ReFrame plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro. This plugin allows Creative Cloud subscribers to adjust the camera angle, position, lens curve, horizon level, and motion blur in imported GoPro 360 files and 2D still images.

GoPro aims to enhance the capabilities of the MAX 360 Action Camera further, with a road map for new Quik app features scheduled for ongoing release.

However, what those features will entail remains uncertain. “This is just the beginning,” Woodman states. “We’re excited to launch powerful new app features throughout the year to continuously elevate the GoPro 360 experience.”

On the hardware side, the updated GoPro MAX features a redesigned 1/4-20 tripod mount, moving away from the traditional GoPro “fingers,” as well as a redesigned battery compartment that accommodates a MAX version of the next-generation Enduro battery.

This upgrade enhances the camera’s shooting duration and allows for faster recharging.

If you’re looking to explore the 3D space or simply want to add more flexibility to your action post-production workflow, the new GoPro MAX 360 camera could be an ideal addition to your camera kit.

The GoPro 360 Action Camera is available for $349.99 from GoPro directly and its network of local retailers and comes with a free one-year GoPro Premium subscription.
