RED has updated REDCINE-X Pro to support Nikon’s N-RAW format, integrating RED’s IPP2 workflow.
This allows users to process clips shot in N-RAW alongside RED’s color science.
Since Nikon acquired RED in 2024, many anticipated an integration of Nikon’s advanced features into RED and vice versa. This collaboration aims to enhance professional-grade content creation.

Following the release of RED LUTs for N-RAW workflows, the addition of Nikon RAW support in REDCINE-X Pro signifies a significant step forward in this partnership.
The updated software enables users to create RED Wide Gamut RGB and Log 3G10 color spaces using Nikon RAW.
This integration enhances post-production workflows by providing improved control over dynamic range adjustments and expanded ISO options.
REDCINE-X Pro now offers extended ISO ranges between 64-25600, giving users greater flexibility when handling high-contrast footage.
According to RED’s website, a major advantage of using REDCINE-X Pro is its non-destructive workflow. “REDCINE-X PRO enables you to make image adjustments while preserving the original RAW format.
This allows you to return to the original files anytime for transcoding, scaling, cropping, or color correction.”
The software also converts selected RAW files to RGB color space using de-mosaicing and color matrix algorithms. Nikon RAW camera files will benefit from non-destructive color correction and dynamic range adjustments, preserving the original RAW data.
What’s next?
Although this remains speculative, we can anticipate that the partnership between Nikon and RED will no doubt also influence hardware design.
This could include RED’s support for Nikkor Z-mount lenses and collaboration on advanced image processors that leverage RED’s color science and image formats.
The next generation of Z-mount mirrorless cameras may also support RED’s R3D recording, simplifying the process of matching cameras across RED and Nikon platforms.
The update is currently in BETA testing with several RED users. It also introduces official support for native Apple ProRes camera files on Windows, removing the need for a Mac as a middleman for exports and streamlining team workflows.
Additionally, the update addresses various issues, including problems with 1D LUTs in Post Effects on Macs, especially when using CUDA. It also resolves highlight clipping issues for legacy CPU configurations.
Nikon users can download the BETA version of REDCINE-X Pro for macOS or Windows from RED’s support website.
