Nikon has introduced the new Nikkor Z 35mm F/1.2 S fast wide-angle prime lens, which offers high-speed optical performance and smooth, picturesque bokeh.
This lens is designed to create a dramatic shallow depth of field while capturing the essential details of the subject in focus for a more cinematic storytelling experience.

As the 40th lens in Nikkor’s lineup of Z-mounted optics, the 35mm F/1.2 S combines sharpness and texture while providing a wider view of the environment surrounding the subject.
Soft, organic features – such as skin tones and hair – are rendered naturally, while reflective objects remain free of color aberration.
This makes the 35mm F/1.2 an ideal choice for capturing cinematography, weddings, and events.

Designed with the S-line designation for superior optics, the lens features 17 elements organized in 15 groups, including three extra-low dispersion glass elements, three aspherical elements, and one aspherical extra-low dispersion element to reduce chromatic aberration and distortion effectively.
The lens aperture incorporates an 11-bladed iris, which creates a smooth, circular bokeh.
Nikon also includes an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism in the lens barrel for highly accurate aperture blade control during continuous shooting with auto exposure.

The design includes a clickless control ring for silent focusing and stable exposure, effectively minimizing focus breathing without shifting the angle of view.
Additionally, the lens elements are treated with Nikon’s patented Nano Crystal, Meso Amorphous, and Arneo coatings to eliminate ghosting and lens flare.
With a fast and quiet internal focusing system, the lens is perfect for shooting video. It offers a 44-degree angle of view in DX format and a 63-degree angle of view in FX format.
The multi-focusing system operates with stepping motors, ensuring fast and accurate performance in both still photography and video modes.
The lens features a reproduction magnification ratio of 0.2x, and its minimum focus distance is rated at 0.99 feet (0.3m).
The design also includes two fully customizable L-fn function buttons, which can be programmed for favorite or commonly used settings, allowing quick deployment at the touch of a button.
An A/M switch lets users toggle between autofocus and priority manual mode, designed to deliberate switch sensitivity to prevent accidental changes while shooting.
Users can adjust the rotation direction to either linear or non-linear settings.
Finally, the Z 35mm F/1.2 S boasts excellent dust and moisture resistance through the sealing of various movable parts of the lens barrel.
While it is not fully weather-sealed and does not have a published IP rating, the design minimizes the chance of dust and moisture intrusion, maintaining the tradition of sturdy Nikkor lenses.

Nikon also announced the new Coolpix P1100 digital camera. Featuring a 125x super-telephoto zoom lens, it can capture images up to 3000mm and even up to 6000mm with dynamic fine zoom mode enabled.
The camera excels at capturing fine details at great distances.
This camera offers dual detect optical vibration reduction, suppressing camera shake by up to four stops when shooting at extreme focal lengths. It can record 4K video at 30 frames per second and create super lapse movie recordings for stunning night sky captures.
Selectable autofocus area modes and a fireworks option are also available, reducing blown-out highlights in low light while shooting celebratory moments or the moon.
Pricing and Availability
The Nikkor Z 35mm F/1.2 S prime lens retails for $2,799.95 (USD), while the Nikon Coolpix P1100 is priced at $1,099.95. Both products will be available in late February 2025 from Nikon and authorized retailers.
