Canon has announced a firmware update that addresses timecode inaccuracies in the Canon C80 and Canon R5C cameras.
This update not only resolves the current issue but also incorporates several improvements from previous updates for users who may have skipped them.
The main feature of versions 1.0.2.1 and 1.1.0.1 is enhanced timecode accuracy when the cameras are powered off.
Additionally, the [Time Code Run] setting is now configured to [Free Run] to better support this enhancement.
Improvements from the earlier firmware include fixing an issue that caused the image to “shake” during video recordings of moving subjects, such as people or animals.
Canon has also introduced a new [Motion Vector For Digital IS] menu option, defaulting to [Disable].
The update modifies the menu option name of [PTP Connection/GP-E2] in [USB Mode] under [System Setup] to [Canon App(s)/GP-E2].
For users with Android devices, the selection should now be [Canon App(s)/GP-E2].
Furthermore, the update supports shooting in 59.94p with RAW LT when using the new LP-E6P battery pack.
It also enables the display of the digital teleconverter icon in the [Main Recording Displays] of [DISP Level 2], along with the lens’ T number.
Additional features include an OSD Output for full-screen display when using [Peripheral Border Display] with an external monitor.
The new Tracking by Touch priority function allows users to identify and lock onto subjects simply by touching the LCD.
Users now have the option to protect images and assign ratings during FTP File transfers.
Both cameras will enable AF Frame and Focus Guides, which can be repositioned within the frame by dragging.
Other notable updated features include:
- Support for the RF-Mount Cinema Lens: CN7x17 KAS T/R1
- Improvements in magnification chromatic aberration correction
- Support for Peripheral Illumination Correction
- Support for distortion aberration correction
- Remote operation capabilities via the camera and RC-V100 (Focus/Zoom/Iris)
- Remote operation via Browser Remote (Focus/Zoom/Iris)
- Zoom operation can be controlled by the joystick on the camera body
- Support for Dual Pixel CMOS AF autofocus
- Support for [Dual Pixel Focus Guide]
- Support for [Push Auto Iris] and [Auto Iris]
Lastly, the update includes routine housekeeping fixes that address various minor issues to enhance overall performance and reliability.
