Version 3.2 for the S5II and Version 2.2 for the S5IIX bring several notable improvements:

  • MP4 (Lite) Compatibility: A key enhancement for content creators is the introduction of Open Gate mode for video recording. This new mode allows LUMIX cameras to produce smaller file sizes with less data while maintaining the image’s resolution.
  • Enhanced Subject Detection: The Lumix hybrid autofocus system now offers new options for detecting airplanes and trains, as well as locking focus of specific features found on motor vehicles, such as cars and motorcycles.
  • Display of Frame Markers: The updates also introduce a new display feature for multiple frame markers. Camera operators can now display up to three markers simultaneously and position them within the frame. This flexibility enables content creators to frame shots for various aspect ratios and plan different compositions. The new display feature supports the aforementioned Open Gate mode.
  • Hybrid and Crop Zoom Modes: New Hybrid Zoom and Crop Zoom features allow users to magnify or zoom in on images without changing lenses. Hybrid Zoom combines the use of the zoom ring for optical zooming with Crop Zoom, which focuses on the central part of an image while enhancing the effect without degrading overall image quality.

Additionally, the updates improve compatibility with the Panasonic LUMIX Lab smartphone app.

Users can now enjoy shooting, shutter control, and image transfer for camera-to-cloud functions, along with wireless connectivity for live streaming.

Version 1.3 for the GH7 and Version 2.3 for the GH9II also incorporate several features from above, including the display of multiple frame markers, MP4 (Lite) compatibility, and LUMIX Lab smartphone app support.

The GH9II adds those features, plus the Crop Zoom feature, enhanced hybrid autofocus, and more.

All firmware updates come with operational stability improvements and general housekeeping fixes to enhance the cameras’ reliability.
