Typically, NAB serves as the technological paradise where content creators glimpse upcoming advancements.
However, those interested in technology should not overlook the new devices being unveiled at CES.
In anticipation of this major tech event, monitor manufacturers are introducing new OLED monitors that promise refresh rates of up to 500 Hz, providing a significant advantage for 8K workflows.
Kicking off this monitor showcase, Samsung presents its 27-inch 500Hz Odyssey monitor.
This model comes in two configurations: the G60SF QD-OLED and the G8 G81SF QD-OLED.
Both displays promise 4K resolution, with refresh rates of 500Hz and 240Hz, respectively. Specifically, the G60SF has a resolution of 2560×1440, while the G81SF boasts 3840×2160.
Both models support Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) for gaming and are compatible with FreeSync and G-Sync.
Samsung has also introduced the M90SF QD-OLED panel, positioned as the world’s first “smart monitor” tailored for general media consumption.
This 32-inch display features a 4K resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate, along with built-in technologies such as 4K AI Upscaling and a 4K webcam.
Additionally, the Viewfinity S8 37-inch LCD wide monitor offers a resolution of 3840×2160 with a 16:9 aspect ratio.
This model includes USB-C with charging support of up to 90 Watts.
Samsung is also revitalizing 3D monitors, set to launch a stereoscopic display featuring glasses-free 3D technology.
This technology syncs through tracking the user’s eyes with a front-facing camera, adjusting a lenticular lens accordingly.
The 27-inch display will output in 4K resolution and is intended for gaming, utilizing AI-based technology to convert regular content into 3D.
Asus, MSI and Gigabyte are also expected to launch 27-inch QD-OLED displays in the new year.
The Asus Asus XG27AQDPG features refresh rates of up to 500Hz and a latency of just 0.3 ms.
And while it doesn’t support DisplayPort 2.1 like its competitors below, it does promise a bandwidth of up to 80 Gbps and includes HDMI 2.1.
MSI and Gigabyte are also joining the QD-OLED movement with their respective models, the MSI 272QR and the Gigabyte FO27Q5P.
All three monitors feature fourth-generation, five-layer tandem QD-OLED panels produced by Samsung, enjoy a DCI-P3 rating of 99%, and are ClearMR certified, meeting the highest motion performance standards under the VESA specifications.
These panels also minimize the risk of burn-in with OLED Care 2.0 and have a Less Blue Light Pro anti-reflective coating.
Availability
While pricing for these models is not yet available, they are all slated to launch later in 2025.
