Atomos has announced a significant firmware update for its popular Shinobi II HDR monitor, which introduces expanded camera support, enhanced touch-to-focus functionality, and other performance improvements.
The update, version 11.03.00, is now available and further enhances the capabilities of the renowned 5-inch HDR display.
The Shinobi II has earned praise for its slim, lightweight design and robust feature set, making it an indispensable tool for vloggers, photographers, and filmmakers.
Its core features include a bright 5-inch HDR display capable of 1500 nits of brightness, ensuring excellent visibility even in direct sunlight.
With a wide color gamut and HDR support, the monitor provides accurate color representation, which is ideal for creatives working on high-quality video and photography projects.
Weighing just 196 grams, the Shinobi II boasts portability, making it perfect for run-and-gun setups or remote shooting.
Despite its compact size, it includes advanced features like waveform monitoring, false color, focus peaking, and frame guides, giving users professional-grade tools for precise image evaluation.
The intuitive touch interface allows for seamless navigation through menus and settings, while the robust build ensures reliability in various shooting environments.
The monitor features a range of connectivity options, supporting HDMI 2.0 for 4K input and output, along with compatibility with a wide variety of cameras.
Its long-lasting battery system provides extended runtime for creators working on location.
These features have made the Shinobi II a popular choice among professionals and hobbyists alike, delivering exceptional value at an accessible price point.
Building on this strong foundation, Atomos introduced touch-to-focus functionality in October, further enhancing the monitor’s versatility.
The latest firmware update elevates this feature by allowing users to set focus points in AF tracking mode for supported cameras.
Additionally, the touch-to-focus function is compatible with new camera models, including the Canon EOS R1, EOS R5 Mark II, EOS R7, Nikon Z8, Sony FX3, and Sony FX30.
The firmware update also adds camera control support for the Fujifilm X-T5, X-T4, and X-T3, along with Fujifilm F-LOG2 Log/HDR conversion capabilities.
Furthermore, several housekeeping improvements include bug fixes and enhancements for general reliability, all aimed at improving the user experience.
Jeromy Young, CEO of Atomos, described the update as a gift to the company’s loyal users.
“The overwhelming success of AF touch-to-focus has revolutionized workflows for videographers and photographers.
Now, with support for the most popular Canon, Sony, and Nikon cameras, this update is a true game-changer,” he stated.
The Shinobi II is priced at USD/EUR 349 (excluding local taxes) and is available through authorized Atomos resellers.
The firmware update can be downloaded for free from the official Atomos support website.
