Blackmagic has officially announced that preorders are now open for the new Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive Cinema Camera.
Blackmagic CEO Grant Petty proclaims that the URSA Cine Immersive is the world’s first commercial digital film camera with built-in cloud storage technology and a “true end-to-end workflow” for Apple Immersive Video.
“With this innovative system, filmmakers can record remarkable moments,” stated Petty, “like action-packed scenes, unique perspectives, stunning landscapes, intimate performances, and more, all with incredible fidelity, offering viewers an unparalleled sense of realism and immersion.”
Designed for content creation tailored to Apple’s Vision Pro virtual reality goggles, the URSA Cine Immersive features a fixed, custom stereo lens system optimized for capturing immersive video.
This bespoke system works harmoniously with the URSA Cine’s large format image sensor, providing metadata with precise positioning and calibration to enhance Blackmagic RAW in the camera’s post-production workflow.
The camera 8K large format image sensor, synced with pixel-level accuracy and supports up to 16 stops of dynamic range. It captures immersive content at a resolution of 8160×7200 per eye and a frame rate of 90 frames per second.
Additionally, the camera includes 8TB of built-in network storage and is compatible with the Blackmagic Media Module.
It allows for camera-to-cloud syncing via Blackmagic Cloud and DaVinci Resolve, facilitating real-time post-production uploads while shooting.
This capability means that editors can work on the 8K stereoscopic 3D immersive video as it’s being filmed.
For connectivity, the camera supports high-speed 10G Ethernet and 12G-SDI output.
It also features USB-C, XLR audio inputs, a fold-out 5” HDR touchscreen monitor on one side, and an external color status LCD on the other, providing dedicated screens for both camera operators and assistants during operation.
Blackmagic has developed a new RAW Immersive file format designed to streamline the entire post-production workflow.
These files utilize Blackmagic’s Generation 5 color science and a new film curve, which optimizes stereoscopic images for a more natural appearance when viewed through the goggles.
The file storage not only includes the image but also retains camera and lens metadata, white balance, slate information, and custom LUTs to achieve the desired look throughout the project.
The camera also supports smaller H.264 proxy files that can be uploaded to Blackmagic Cloud in seconds, giving editors an early start on the assembly edit.
To enhance the post-production workflow, Blackmagic is introducing a new immersive menu that allows editors to work on the Apple Vision Pro from the Resolve Studio Timeline.
This feature enables users to manipulate pan, tilt, and roll options, as well as manage color, audio, and graphics. Final files can then be exported and delivered for viewing on the Apple Vision Pro.
