DJI Mic Mini Takes Center Stage in the Wireless Audio Revolution

DJI has launched the new DJI Mic Mini Wireless microphone, continuing the trend of “mini” in the wireless audio market.

This microphone boasts an impressive battery life of up to 48 hours and features dual noise-canceling recording tracks, along with a third safety track. It serves as DJI’s response to the RØDE Wireless Micro.

Designed to be ultra-light and compact, the DJI Mic Mini promises long-lasting battery life while delivering stable, high-performance wireless audio, all for under $170.

“Content creators can rely on capturing remarkably dynamic, crystal-clear sound in any environment, benefiting from the wearability and functionality of the DJI Mic Mini,” said Paul Pan, Senior Product Line Manager at DJI.

“We strive to meet the needs of a wide range of creators by offering innovative tools that provide premium audio capture for all levels of content creation.”

DJI’s redesign has allowed them to shrink the size of their wireless microphones by nearly half. Weighing just 10 grams, the DJI Mic Mini is the smallest mic DJI has ever made.

This compact footprint promises discreet and easy attachment using a clip-on, magnets, or a draped from a lanyard. Its small footprint makes it barely noticeable in the camera frame.

Even though it’s compact, the DJI Mic Mini provides outstanding sound quality thanks to its two levels of noise-canceling technology.

It effectively reduces loud background sounds, such as crowd noise and air conditioning, while preserving vocal clarity. The basic noise-canceling setting minimizes fan sounds for indoor environments, while the stronger setting tackles background interference, delivering clear audio in outdoor settings.

Additionally, it comes with easy-to-attach furry windscreens to help mitigate wind noise. The DJI Mimo app also features a separate safety track recorded at 6 dB lower to safeguard against any signal congestion or distortion, ensuring the audio remains usable.

The Mic Mini provides five options for setting recording levels and adjusting the gain on the receiver. Its automatic noise-limiting feature prevents clipping when audio levels exceed acceptable limits, eliminating distortion.

Creators have the flexibility to select mono or stereo dual-channel recording, allowing them to separate audio from two transmitters or combine it into one track.

The microphone transmits audio up to 400 meters (1,312 feet), maintaining a stable, high-quality signal to the Mic Mini receiver.

As part of the DJI Osmo Direct Connection System, the Mic Mini transmitters can automatically pair with various DJI products, including the Osmo Action 5 Pro, Action 4, and Pocket 3, without needing the receiver.

Users can also connect the microphones directly via Bluetooth to smartphones and interface with several third-party apps and drones like the DJI Neo through the DJI Fly app.

This app enables users to reduce propeller noise, merge audio tracks, and overlay microphone audio onto drone footage.

Exceptionally long battery life, with power-saving features

Long-lasting battery life is another impressive feature, with up to 48 hours of extended use and an additional hour available after just a five-minute charge.

A power-saving algorithm puts the transmitters into sleep mode when they don’t detect a signal for a specified time, eliminating the need for manual power-downs during downtime.

The DJI Mimo app can automatically power off the microphones after a certain period, preventing battery drain.

Pricing and Availability

The DJI Mic Mini is now available in Arctic White or Infinity Black for $169.

This package includes a single DJI Mic Mini receiver, two mic mini transmitters, a charging case, USB-C cables, a Type-C mobile phone adapter, four furry windscreens, mini clip magnets, and a carrying pouch.

A solo Mic Mini set with one transmitter and one receiver retails for $89 and includes all the items listed above (except for the charging case, which is swapped for a mini transmitter charging dock).

Users can purchase additional transmitters piecemeal for $59 and the charging case for $49.

While being an industry leader in the drone space, DJI continues to expand it’s content creation tools with high-performance camera gear that can compete with the best out there. It’s no longer just a UAV company.
