Zeiss has launched the new Supreme Zoom Radiance line of high-end cinema zoom lenses, each featuring a constant aperture speed of T2.9. This set includes three lenses: 15-30mm, 28-80mm, and 70-200mm.
They are coated with the same T* blue lens coating found in the Zeiss Supreme Prime line.
The iconic design of the new Zoom Radiance line allows for effective control of lens flare, enhancing depth, texture, and atmosphere in cinematic shots.
The T* blue coating enables consistent flare reproduction from shot to shot, especially when directed light is focused straight down the lens barrel.
By incorporating zoom, the flare can become a unique yet adjustable effect, providing more creative possibilities for camera operators.
In addition to controlling flare, the T* blue coating delivers a warmer color rendition compared to traditional cinema zoom coatings, resulting in images with increased contrast and vibrant tones.
Each lens element also features an anti-reflective coating, ensuring that contrast is preserved in various lighting conditions, particularly at the extremes of the spectrum.
The lenses are designed with a 16-bladed aperture, producing circular bokeh and gentle focus falloff. This feature facilitates shallow depth of field and effective low-light image capture.
The Supreme Zoom Radiance lenses provide flexibility, offering equal coverage for Super 35, full-frame, and larger format image circles.
They are equipped with Zeiss eXtended Data technology, which transmits lens metadata using the Cooke/i protocol.
This frame-by-frame data transmission helps manage lens vignetting and distortion while providing comprehensive telemetry for post-production work.
Additionally, the lenses come integrated with the Zeiss CinCraft Ecosystem at no extra charge.
This allows camera operators to avoid lengthy lens calibration procedures and get right to shooting, saving time and costs on set.
The Supreme Zoom Radiance set features .8 MOD iris, focus, and zoom rings, along with a consistent 114mm front diameter across all lenses for seamless use of accessories such as filters and matte boxes.
This consistency reduces setup time when changing lenses.
Other specifications include a focus throw of 300°, a horizontal angle of view varying by the lens chosen, with focusing capabilities ranging from 0.55 to 1.5 meters, and a weight between 2.76 kg and 3.18 kg (6.09 to 7.01 pounds).
Thanks to a firmware update, the lenses also facilitate the automatic transfer of lens scale and depth of field information to the ARRI Hi-5 and WCU-4 hand units when used with ARRI cameras and the ARRI LCS.
The Supreme Zoom Radiance lenses come with an ARRI PL mount, which can be swapped for an ARRI LPL mount. Focus markings are available in meters or feet, depending on user preference.
