SanDisk Releases 2TB Extreme Pro SD Cards

SanDisk has quietly introduced a new Extreme Pro 2TB UHS-I V30 SDXC media card.

This card was first noticed as a new size option in SanDisk’s pull-down menu and appears to have launched without any major announcement.

The new 2TB variant doubles the capacity of the UHS-I SD cards that SanDisk released in 2019, alongside their line of microSD media cards.

This increase in storage capacity is likely to breathe new life into older 4K and HD camera systems, allowing them to serve as effective secondary cameras for the time being.

Additionally, the cards are compatible with camcorders, laptops, audio recorders, and other devices.

With a capacity of 2TB, content creators will find this card highly beneficial, as it allows for the capture of more than 2,808 minutes of 4K UHD video at 30 frames per second, or nearly double that in full HD.

Users can also store up to 47,368 RAW still photos at 24 MP. The SanDisk Extreme Pro 2TB UHS-I V30 SD card boasts impressive read/write speeds of up to 250 MB/sec for reading and 150 MB/sec for writing.

This performance is particularly noteworthy, given that the UHS-I standard typically supports write speeds of only up to 30 MB/sec.

Moreover, even older cameras that cannot take full advantage of the faster write speeds will benefit from quicker offload times due to the significantly improved data transfer rates.

However, there is a caveat: these SD cards require SanDisk’s proprietary QuickFlow™ SD UHS-I Card USB-A Reader to achieve optimal performance.

QuickFlow technology has been designed to exceed the 104 MB/sec threshold of the UHS-I specification, and the new 2TB variant surpasses this threshold.

Therefore, users seeking to maximize their transfer speeds will likely need to invest in an upgraded card reader.

Pricing and Availability

The Extreme Pro 2TB UHS-I V30 SDXC media card is currently available exclusively on SanDisk’s website for a suggested retail price of $299.

Given the quiet nature of this product launch, it is reasonable to expect that third-party retailers will begin carrying the new cards soon.

SanDisk also includes a two-year subscription to its RescuePro data recovery app, which can recover various formats, including photos, videos, documents, and more.

The QuickFlow card reader is available elsewhere, including at Amazon for under $20, but it is currently listed as out of stock.

As for a possible microSD card version, there have been no announcements yet, so we will need to wait for any developments in the future.
