Canon is expanding its collection of RF L mount lenses with three hybrid options designed for both photography and video, ensuring high performance across both mediums.
Joining the previously released 35mm RF L and 24-105mm RF L lenses, these three new offerings include the RF 24mm F1.4 L VCM, RF 50mm F1.4 L VCM, and the RF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z mount lens.
These RF L mount lenses are tailored for Canon’s mirrorless cameras and deliver sharp, clear images with low distortion throughout the frame.
They incorporate Canon’s latest actuator and focusing system for quiet, precise autofocus and a wider field of view than the human eye can perceive.
The RF 24mm F1.4 and RF 50mm F1.4 L VCM lenses utilize a combination of VCM and USM actuators to minimize focus breathing during video capture.
Each lens features a silent iris ring for aperture adjustments and a customizable function button for easy access to preferred settings. Both lenses weigh less than 20.5 ounces and measure just 3.5 inches in length.
The RF 24mm F1.4 consists of 15 elements arranged in 11 groups, including two ultra-low dispersion elements and one aspherical element. It also features an 11-blade aperture for smooth bokeh.
By comparison, the RF 50mm F1.4 comprises 14 elements in 11 groups, with one ultra-low dispersion element and two aspherical elements, and it has the same 11-blade aperture for cinematic bokeh.
Both lenses are compatible with one-shot autofocus and servo autofocus, and support Canon’s dual-pixel CMOS AF II.
Canon is also introducing the RF 70-200mm F2.8 IS USM Z telephoto lens, ideal for versatile image capture in sports, news reporting, and other scenarios requiring extended focal lengths.
This lens shares the same design and minimal focus breathing capabilities as the other two lenses and is specifically tuned for video recording, featuring smooth iris ring control that can be enhanced with power zoom adapters for ENG applications.
The RF 70-200mm lens includes 18 elements arranged in 15 groups, featuring two super ultra-low dispersion elements, one ultra-low dispersion element, and three aspherical elements.
It also has an 11-blade aperture arrangement.
This new telephoto lens offers a maximum magnification of 0.3x for close-up shots and features image stabilization rated at 5.5 stops in the center, or up to 7.5 stops in the center and 7.0 stops in the corners when paired with Canon R series mirrorless cameras using in-body image stabilization functions.
