DJI’s NextGen Air 3S Takes to the Skies with 14 Stops of Dynamic Range

DJI has introduced the Air 3S drone. The Air 3S features a 1-inch CMOS sensor capable of capturing 10-bit video with up to 14 stops of dynamic range, making it well-suited for capturing detailed landscapes and travel videos.

The newcomer is equipped with two cameras: a 24mm wide-angle camera with a 1-inch 50MP CMOS sensor for capturing expansive landscape shots, and a 70mm medium telephoto camera with a 48MP 1/1.3 inch sensor and 3x optical zoom for detailed images with reduced distortion.

The DJI Air 3S can capture 10-bit 4K video using H.265 video encoding and DJI’s color science, providing accurate colors and greater flexibility in post-production.

It offers D-Log and Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) modes, allowing users to capture scenes with 14 stops of dynamic range and 3.2μm large pixel size. This expanded brightness and detail make it suitable for urban night settings and stunning sunsets.

The drone’s video encoding algorithms have been optimized to improve image quality while reducing file sizes by up to 30% compared to the DJI Air 2S.

Additionally, a new panorama mode has been introduced, allowing users to stitch together multiple images with a manually selected subject area.

Camera operators can take advantage of features like ActiveTrack 360°, which keeps subjects in frame and tracks along the flight path, and a subject-focusing feature that maintains sharp focus even when the subject moves off-center.

The DJI Air 3S is equipped with downward infrared sensors and 360° vision sensors to offer omnidirectional obstacle sensing, ensuring trouble-free flight paths for the pilot to navigate.

The drone also features map construction tools and its return-to-home feature can memorize flight paths optimized for current lighting conditions to ensure safe piloting and return in case of GPS satellite connection loss.

Other features of the Air 3S include DJI’s next-generation O4 video transmission, offering 10-bit video monitoring in 1080p at 60 frames per second at a distance of up to 20 kilometers.

Additionally, it offers a 45-minute flight time, 42 GB of onboard storage, local data mode, off-state file transfer, and PD Fast charging from the DJI charging hub.
