Convergent Design Sets End of Life Date for Odyssey/Apollo Monitor Support

Convergent Design has announced that it will no longer support its popular Odyssey/Apollo video switcher and OLED HD monitor.

The Odyssey/Apollo, which was first released in 2014, can still be found in many camera setups, but Convergent Design has announced that users must activate their Odyssey for continued use before the end of October.

The company stated, “Unfortunately, while your Odyssey/Apollo hopefully has many years of life, we are now shutting down the service and repair of these units and creating new activation keys. Yes, the party has come to an end.”

Convergent Design recommends that any necessary repairs to the Odyssey/Apollo device should be completed before the end-of-life date.

Users are asked to send the device to the new repair center in Colorado Springs as soon as possible.

Owners of the Odyssey/Apollo may also need an activation key, which will be available until October 31, 2024.

To obtain an activation key, users will need to send their Odyssey serial number to initiate the process.

Users can still purchase the Raw bundle for $195, while the Apollo (4-channel recording) option is $395. After the October 31st deadline, Convergent will shut down the activation service for good, while there will be support through the end of 2024.

Users can also obtain the necessary firmware by downloading it from Convergent’s Dropbox. Additionally, Convergent suggests reflashing the firmware at least once a year to extend the life of the device.

This will enable the memory of the monitor to restore the full electron charge, making the reading of memory more reliable.

It’s always a sad moment when a perfectly good piece of equipment is discontinued in favor of focusing resources and support on newer designs, especially when that equipment is still operating at its peak performance.

However, as the state of the art continues to evolve, this is inevitable. At least Convergent is giving users time and a path to safeguard that technology for a little while longer.
