SmallRig’s Mighty New Wireless Microphone is Tiny but Powerful

The Small Rig S60 Wireless Microphone may look a bit more like a tiny button on a shirt, but it can deliver professional-grade audio recording from nearly a thousand feet away.

It is designed for mobile content creators who want to attach a wireless mic to a subject unobtrusively. The S60 is so small and lightweight that it’s doubtful anyone would even notice it.

The key to the S60’s minimalist form factor and long range of its antenna.

This technique uses Laser Direct Structuring (LDS) technology to fuse conductive materials such as copper, silver, gold, or nickel directly into the complex design of a part made of injection-molded plastic.

The result is clear directional sound reception with a reduction in ambient background noise.

The S60 uses a digital signal processor (DSP) to record 16-bit sound at 48 kHz, with built-in noise reduction that can be triggered on and off.

It has a 74 dB signal-to-noise ratio and can also be set to record 24-bit audio for extra high fidelity.

The mic also has an adjustable gain control button that can set levels to three different modes based on environmental needs.

The user can trigger the mute function with a simple double tap of the transmitter, or stop/start recording altogether.

With up to eleven hours of battery life on a single charge of a 1000 mAh battery, the S60 can also be extended to 45 hours of continuous use when paired with the pocket-sized charging case.

The receiver, which plugs into a mobile device via USB-C, can pick up the signal from as far as 300 meters (984 feet) over a 2.4 GHz transmission frequency, making it suitable for use on location or in large settings.

The receiver has controls to adjust audio with one-click precision and can also receive phantom power from a mobile device through the USB-C connection.

But perhaps its most telling feature is its pill-sized footprint. Measuring 2.6 cm (1 inch), the S60’s wireless transmitters can be magnetically attached to clothing or can fit into a modest, yet fashionable, necklace to be worn around the subject’s neck.

And at a weight of 7.9g (.28 oz), it won’t bog down the talent.

Pricing and Availability

The Small Rig S60 Wireless Microphone is available now in either white or black for $89.99. For a limited time, users can also apply a 20% off coupon, bringing that price down to $72.00.

The S60 comes with two transmitters, a USB-C receiver, a circular charging case, furry windscreens, a neck strap, a back clip, adhesive pads, and a charging cable.

With the increased miniaturization, wireless microphone technology is making it far easier to deliver professional sound without hiding an oversized transmitter and being limited by range. It’s a great time to gear up.
