Competition is intensifying in the online video production space with the introduction of the new RØDECaster Video by RØDE.
This new console is an extension of the successful RØDE Streamer X and RØDECaster lines, and it can connect up to six cameras and multiple audio devices using XLR, USB, and RØDE’s fourth-generation wireless connectivity.
The goal is to provide content creators with professional-grade video switching capabilities while delivering high-quality RØDE sound.
The announcement claims that similar to how the original RØDECaster Pro revolutionized podcasting, the RØDECaster Video is set to do the same for video production.
It offers a comprehensive and user-friendly all-in-one solution for content creators, video podcasters, live streamers, and broadcasters, providing versatility and power.
“With its intuitive interface, scene-based architecture, and seamless combination of professional video and audio in one compact device, (the RØDECaster Video) delivers unprecedented power and versatility to the next generation of content creators,” said RØDE CEO Damien Wilson.
“The RØDECaster Video marks a huge step in the evolution of RØDE and a massive milestone for creator technology.”
The RØDECaster Video is powered by a high-performance 8-core video CPU with a next-generation video engine.
It is designed to be simple and intuitive for content creators transitioning to video switching for online content creation. This custom-built CPU outputs 8-bit 4:4:4 RGB 1080p HD video at up to 60 frames per second.
In addition to RØDE’s standard APEX audio processing engine with EQ, compressor, noise gate, high-pass filters, and Aural Exciter effects, the new console also features an intelligent auto-switching tool for audio that can switch between video sources as the camera changes, making it ideal for solo creators and small crews to professionally manage a high-performance video stream.
Content creators can set up and start streaming to major platforms within minutes using WiFi, Ethernet, or USB connections, and can also record directly to an external device via USB, with multitrack and isolated recording options for flexibility during post-production workflows.
The RØDECaster Video includes six camera buttons for switching and seven channels for applying user-assignable graphics, media playback, effects, and more.
It works in conjunction with the RØDE Central app to further customize the console for specific projects through the creation of profiles that reassign settings to suit any workflow.
The RØDECaster Video also features dual-engine processing, allowing the operator to view transitions and scenes in preview while the current live feed is being broadcasted, providing professional-grade, affordable broadcast-quality video production.
The RØDECaster Video connects audio inputs from a pair of XLR connections, with options for line-level USB and wireless Series IV wireless transmitters.
These connections are routed through ultra-low-noise high-gain Revolveution Preamps, offering up to nine audio channels for flexible audio mixing, multitrack recording, and custom routing.
Pricing and Availability
The RØDECaster Video is available for preorder exclusively through B&H for a retail price of $1,199 and is expected to ship worldwide in October 2024.
With the introduction of the RØDECaster Video, affordable live streaming and online content creation have become even more interesting.
It will be exciting to see the future developments from RØDE and how creators respond. Regardless of what happens next, creators are the winners.
