Blackmagic Drops a New PYXIS Monitor, Plus the Price of the New URSA 17K Camera

Blackmagic has introduced a new 5-inch HDR touchscreen monitor for its modular PYXIS 6K Cinema Camera at IBC.

This monitor supports full camera control to the PYXIS Cinema Camera and comes with additional monitoring tools. The price tag for this monitor is also very competitive.

The new PYXIS monitor is adjustable and features a super bright 1500-nit display, making it suitable for use as a viewfinder not only for the PYXIS but also for the URSA line of cinema cameras.

It comes with multiple mounting points for attaching directly to any camera or rig. The monitor has a robust metal design and a bright tally light that’s easy to see from a distance.

The PYXIS monitor also features three customizable buttons for setting favorite tools, such as zebra stripe, focus assist, false color, or other on-board tools that camera operators like to access quickly.

The tactile design makes it easy to access these buttons by touch, allowing the operator to compose an image or set focus without taking their eye off the viewfinder.

Additionally, the touchscreen OS allows users to access all features and tools quickly and easily without navigating through multiple levels of the camera’s menu system.

There are also settings for metadata transmission and loading of custom 3D LUTs. Furthermore, the monitor has a built-in accelerometer for image orientation.

The monitor is easy to connect to a camera for power and control through a single USB-C cable connection, which is lockable for a secure connection.

Pricing and availability

The Blackmagic PYXIS Monitor is available for a retail price of $295 at Blackmagicdesign.com and authorized retailers. It is also available in kits that include the PYXIS Monitor Mount or EVF Mount for $445 and $645 respectively.
