Sony has released a new M2L-X software-based live production switcher for both remote and in-house production, including streaming and cloud operations.
The switcher offers 24 separate inputs with hybrid processing and can be controlled on public clouds from any workstation on the network.
“As a key component of Sony’s Networked Live portfolio,” the announcement goes on to state, “[the software] enables production resources to be optimally connected, used, and shared, from virtually any location.”
Taking the next logical steps first established by the M2 Live system in 2022, the upgraded M2L-X system acts as a live video switcher, supporting streaming formats for 8-bit standard-definition streams and 10-bit high-definition streams.
It also handles complex audio switching, computer graphics, and video stream captions. The system supports Audio Mixer, Graphix, and Multi-viewer, with HTML5 over NDI for a versatile stream with support for output, tally, and various connections.
In addition to business-to-business (B2B) switching production, it can also support multi-language events and local sports content.
This software is designed to be compatible with various live production hardware modules, operable with ICP-X series control panels, and supports third-party devices such as the El Gato StreamDeck.
In a future update, the M2L-X software will be able to support commercial and off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and create a private cloud for adjunct productions.
The system will connect a wide variety of venues, to the technical direction truck, the network, and finally, the end user like a network stream or local news station.
The M2L-X also supports third-party controllers and applications, offering a scalable production-switching solution with hybrid processing for live video productions.
It is supported by Sony’s Networked Live ecosystem with connections to both on-site and cloud-based resources for network distribution.
The switcher software interfaces with a variety of hardware-based ICP-X switchers and control panels such as Sony’s ICP-X7000 series for efficient control and management of complex production tasks.
Overall, the M2L-X switcher provides flexibility for managing and producing live events from local video villages, networks, and the cloud, making it the ideal production switcher for mid to large-scale content.
