Atomos has unveiled its Shinobi 5-inch Field Monitor update, introducing the Shinobi II 5.2-inch monitor.
This compact, thin, and lightweight monitor offers remarkable brightness of up to 1500 nits. It is tailored to cater to vloggers, content creators, and videographers.
The Shinobi II provides 4K monitoring with 10-bit HDR video, delivering up to 10+ stops of dynamic range when shooting in Log/PQ and HLG.
Moreover, Atomos has integrated camera control support into the HDR monitor, enabling compatibility with Canon, Panasonic, and Sony mirrorless platforms via USB-C.
Additionally, the Z Cam E2 is supported through a serial cable connection. Atomos also intends to expand support to Nikon, Fujifilm, SIGMA, and OMS through future firmware updates.
Atomos CEO Jeromy Young highlighted, “We’ve designed the camera control interface with a focus on common settings that need to be adjusted on a shot-by-shot basis.
The exposure triangle is an essential element of all photography, and Shinobi II has sliders for adjusting lens aperture, shutter speed, and ISO.”
Young further emphasized that the Shinobi II offers immediate and responsive access for achieving the perfect exposure on the 1500-nit HDR monitor.
This is particularly beneficial when used in combination with the monitor’s AtomOS 11 suite of powerful monitoring tools, including histogram, waveform, false color, zebra, focus peaking, and zoom.
The Shinobi II also features adjustable White Balance through popup sliders, and camera operators can initiate recording through an on-screen button that will display a red edge on the screen when recording has been activated.
Furthermore, the Shinobi can undergo calibration using an X-Rite or Calibrite Probe, or by utilizing the Atomos Calibrator app on a smartphone for precise HDR and Rec. 709 color gamuts.
The monitor also provides built-in LUT preview for up to 8 custom LUTs, with frame guides catering to a variety of aspect ratios from horizontal and vertical formats.
In summary, the Shinobi II is 30 percent thinner than its predecessor, maintaining a lightweight build of 7.4 ounces (210 grams).
It also includes locking cable connectors for HDMI and USB ports, a Sony NP battery plate, and features PD charging in and out ports for supplying power to the camera or for charging the Shinobi itself through a USB-C connected charging brick.
