To celebrate more than 50 million cameras sold in the last ten years, GoPro is currently offering a sale on its flagship Hero12 Black action camera, providing a $150 instant rebate.
This discount applies to the camera alone or any of GoPro’s bundled kits and also includes a free one-year subscription to GoPro Premium. This sale raises the question of whether a new Hero 13 is on the horizon, as it’s about that time.
Flagship Action
The Hero12 Black can capture 5.3K HDR video at up to 30 frames per second, 4K at 120 fps, and 2.7K at up to 240 fps.
It boasts 1.5 hours of continuous shooting in 5.3K and up to 2.5 hours of battery life when shooting in HD.
Additionally, it can capture video with an ultra-wide 177-degree field of view when using the optional Max Lens Mod 2.0.
This model also features HyperSmooth 6.0 image stabilization with 360° horizon lock and can utilize the entire large image sensor real estate of 156° field of view when shooting in 8:7.
This allows for various aspect ratios, including social media-centric dimensions and traditional cinematic ones. It can also capture 27-megapixel still frame screen grabs, thanks to the camera’s 24.7-megapixel image sensor.
The supported codecs include GoPro’s flavor of Log, GP Log, and the camera also supports the addition of 3D LUTs. Other features include Bluetooth audio support for AirPods and other wireless sound recording devices, voice control, and gesture control.
The camera also has a new timecode sync feature, allowing users to sync multiple Hero 12 Black cameras for capturing the same action from multiple camera angles while maintaining the same timecode.
A New Hero Coming?
According to GoPro watchers, the company has registered three new camera designs for 2024, which could include a Hero13 and a new generation GoPro Max 360° camera.
There is talk that GoPro may be working on a higher resolution “Pro” level camera for cinematic applications and could have a higher resolution 1-inch+ 8K GP3 sensor.
However, many in the forums are stating that 5.3K is more than sufficient for most action needs and would prefer GoPro to continue to refine the camera’s GP2 sensor to GP3 and tweak its internal software for better low-light dynamic range, plus the incorporation of AI-powered creative tools.
On sale for a limited time
There is still time to score the GoPro Hero 12 Black with an instant rebate of $100 off, making its retail price $299.
The Hero 12 Black with the Max Lens Mod 2.0 is also on sale for $420.87, and the Hero 12 Black Creator Edition Bundle for $579.99.
There are also several accessory bundles available that can take advantage of the same instant rebate.
Additionally, users can receive a one-year subscription to GoPro Premium, offering unlimited cloud storage, damaged camera replacements, and up to a 50% discount on GoPro accessories, a $50 value.
That makes the overall savings to be $150, with Free shipping for orders placed by July 12, 2024.
