ZHIYUN has announced another handheld gimbal stabilizer, this time for smartphones, which incorporates AI into its design.

An upgrade of the original Smooth 5S design, the ZHIYUN Smooth 5S AI features intelligent algorithms that can grab and track subjects with subtle adjustments to keep them in sharp and clear focus while on the move.
The advanced magnetic AI Tracker module uses gesture control to manage tracking functions easily and to trigger recording.
Users have to use ZHIYUN’s Y Cami app to take advantage of the tracker, but it means that shooters are no longer tethered to the device to use it.
They can set the gimbal down using its mini tripod and then trigger it accordingly using the appropriate gesture.

The AI also has a redesigned control panel on the handle for easy-to-reach control and making physical adjustments of buttons, dials, switches, and the gimbal’s ergonomic joystick, allowing for minute control without taking your eyes off the action.
The gimbal also has an orthogonal three-axis design, giving shooters true rotation across the entire 360° spectrum, to capture smooth and stable shots no matter where the subject is.
This provides for low-to-high transitions, barrel shots, and a special “vortex mode” for immersive video capture without freezing or locking.
The axis arms are made of a textured translucent material that keeps the whole system light and nimble, with a silicon grip and gradient texture for comfort and to prevent slipping in a sweaty hand.

The Smooth 5S AI also has a built-in high-power 3-watt fill light, which provides a peak brightness of 680 lux, allowing shooters to capture videos in low light conditions without needing an additional video light.
Additionally, users have the option to magnetically attach up to two additional fill lights, for a combined peak luminance of up to 9 watts and 2040 lux, when shooting in darker environments.

In addition to ZHIYUN’s ZY Cami app for camera control, users can further enhance their experience with the ZHIYUN StaCam app, which provides advanced video tools such as focus peaking, zebra stripes, image guides, and support for loading 3D LUTs for a fine-tuned, custom cinematic presentation.

The Smooth 5S has an all-day battery life of up to 26 hours of continuous running time in gimbal-only operation, with up to 7 hours running a single fill light, or just over two hours when using three fill lights and phantom power.
It can recharged using a fast charging setup in a few hours.
