With the tiny Action Pod camera module and some out-of-the-box thinking, Insta360’s Go 3 redefines what an Action Camera can do.
In response to the demand for higher resolution, the company has introduced the new Go 3S, which offers 4K HDR video, Dolby Vision, and the ability to be located through Apple’s Find My Network.
At the core of the Go 3S is a redesigned processor that provides 50% more processing power to capture 4K video at up to 40 fps. The camera also offers double the number of pixels for a more accurate color gamut and dynamic range.
The camera’s detachable Action Pod features a new wide-angle lens and Mega View field of view that promises reduced distortion and a cleaner image.
It also provides ultra-smooth slow motion at up to 200 frames per second in HD or 100 fps in 2.7K.
Dolby Vision HDR provides enhanced details, especially in bright or low ambient light, and the camera also offers a new Interval Video Mode for automatic hands-free image capture.
The finger-sized action pod can be placed anywhere, from clipped to a shirt or hat to magnetically placed on a metal surface. This discreet setup is ideal for situations where a larger, basic camera platform might not be suitable.
The Action Pod slides into the camera’s main body, which features a 2.2-inch flip-up touch screen that wirelessly connects to the pod for easy live remote viewing and previewing of camera angles once the pod has been mounted.
There is also a special magnet pendant that the Action Pod snaps into, providing first-person views in a more comfortable mounting configuration. Other mounting options include an Easy Clip hat mount, a Pivot Stand, and a special cover and base design that makes it easier to set the Go 3S on a curved or uneven surface.
Insta360’s FlowState image stabilization and Horizon Lock provide super smooth image capture when on the move, and a special AI gesture control feature enables start/stop and image capture when mounted out of reach or when grabbing a selfie.
Through the new Multi-Purpose Quick Reader, users can quickly back up footage to a microSD card while charging the camera during a well-deserved break.
Users can also use the Insta360 app to edit video footage and upload it to the cloud or social media networks for sharing.
In an exciting collaboration, Insta360 now supports Apple’s Find My network, enabling users to search for the camera Action Pod or viewing pod through the iPhone.
Users can also connect and overlay data like GPS, speed, and other data points from the Apple Watch with stats and dashboards.
Both camera modules are waterproof to 33 feet (10 meters), while the Action pod itself is splashproof with an IPX4 rating. Twice that of the previous model.
