Sigma Corporation has announced a new addition to its outstanding Art Lens Line.
The new 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II Art Lens represents a significant evolution from the previous model, with the addition of next-generation technologies for improved performance.
Additionally, it is about 10 percent lighter than its predecessor.
Designed with 19 elements organized in 15 groups, the new 24-70mm F2.8 Art lens has six fluorite low dispersion (FLD) lens elements, offering the highest high light transmission level. The lens also includes 2 special low dispersion (SLD) lens elements and 5 aspherical lens elements.
This combination produces improved rendering performance, with gains in sharpness, resolution, and portability. More specifically, the design markedly reduces chromatic aberrations and color fringing throughout the zoom range.
The lens also has a rounded, 11-blade diaphragm to produce an F2.8 aperture and a round, cinematic bokeh in the background. The lens also effectively suppresses focus breathing as the image’s angle of view changes during the pulling of focus when recording video.
In autofocus mode, the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 Art lens uses high-response linear actuator motors to drive the autofocus to speeds three times faster than the previous Art lens model, and with quieter operation.
The wide-angle zoom range has a minimum focusing distance of 6.7 inches and a magnification of 1:2.7-1.4.
The lens also features both click and lock switches and two custom integrated AF-L buttons that can be used to set your favorite lens settings.
There is also a dedicated AF/MF switch and a zoom lock switch to prevent the lens barrel from inadvertently extending or slipping.
Overall, the lens has been shortened to 4.8 inches, with a weight of 1.6 pounds (745g) and a diameter of 87.8mm (3.5 inches).
The lens elements have also been coated with Sigma’s proprietary Nano Porous & Super Multilayer Coatings to maintain sharpness and color accuracy while reducing fringing.
