Panasonic is set to unveil a new Lumix mirrorless camera on May 23rd, with rumors suggesting the possibility of two or even three new cameras.
These cameras were discovered on Asian patent registration sites and are referred to as P2303A, P2302A, and P2304A.
Additionally, a new patent application indicates that Panasonic is working on a new modular box-shaped cinema camera.
The company released a teaser featuring a pair of eyes staring at the Lumix logo, along with the tagline “Capture true color,” “invite” (in Japanese), and the date “20240523.”
The new cameras could be the next-generation micro 4/3s GH7, full-frame S1 RII, or a completely new mirrorless model based on the Leica SL3 with an L-mount lens mount. These new cameras are also rumored to support dual-band WiFi (5.1/2.4 GHz).
The GH7 is expected to feature a live MOS micro four-thirds image sensor with hybrid autofocus, supporting both phase detection autofocus and contrast detection, which should result in faster and more accurate subject detection and lock-on, as well as sharper image capture.
On the other hand, the S1RII is likely to retain the same image sensor but with tweaks and optimizations for improved video recording.
The camera will also support L-Mount lenses. Lastly, the new compact full-frame L-Mount camera could be a joint venture between Leica and Panasonic, resembling Leica’s SL3 in form and function.
A New Cinema Camera
Furthermore, there is talk of a new Panasonic advanced box camera design that was recently granted a patent.
Although there are no details on image sensor size or any other specifics, the camera is suggested to be a next-generation version of the Lumix BGH1 and BS1H, featuring a detachable grip and screen.
The patent also mentions that the design is “dedicated to hand-held shooting.”
The patent’s description suggests a widescreen full-frame image size and an interchangeable L-mount lens mount. An external SSD drive can be attached directly to the main camera module, along with connections for a mountable external microphone with an optional clip holder.
Internally, there is a ducted cooling flow path design within the housing, and a cooling fan to dissipate heat from the image sensor across an aluminum heat sink with fins for efficient cooling.
No other details are forthcoming at the moment, but Panasonic is planning for some exciting new productions as 2024 steams on. In the meantime, be on the alert for sales on the GH6, S1, and others as retailers clear out inventory.
