AI Upscaler Topaz Video Gets Some Great New Tools and Features

It seems that Topaz Labs is poised to release a new version of Topaz Video AI, which will feature some new tools that will not only make the upscaling of legacy video better, but add support for exporting 3D LUTs, slow motion, and motion deburring.

The new version will also now support DaVinci Resolve as a plugin via OpenFX.

“At Topaz, our AI models go beyond camera limitations, dissecting noise into intricate details,” states Topaz. “We’re not just silencing noise; we’re amplifying your artistic vision.”

Developed with temporally aware AI models, Topa Video AI is able to instantly upscale video up to 16K with a single click, increasing video resolution while reducing unwanted artifacts and with what the company says is “spectacular visual quality.” Topaz can even carry details across the frame with camera movement.

Topaz can also stabilize video with out-painting and includes either auto-crop or full-frame mode. Users can also slow down the action up to 120 frames per second with interpolation through Chronos. Options for rolling shutter correction and jitter compensation are also supported, as well as motion deblurring at low shutter speeds.

Topaz Video can also be used to match different cameras at varying frame rates, generating new frames to match footage and make it super smooth.

Now, with version 4.2, Topaz Video AI adds several new features including:

More accurate motion estimation, up to 16x true slow motion (double the rate of the previous vs 4.0), reduced tiling artifacts, and accurate motion estimation.

Topaz has also fine-tuned the app to provide reduced artifacts and ghosting, particularly at lower resolutions. Users can also now process Log footage directly in Video AI and export 3D LUTs for shooting new shots that match.

Pricing and availability

There’s no word on exactly when version 4.2 will drop, only that it will be “soon.” When it does, however, existing Topaz 4 users will get an automatic update.

And unlike subscription models that are all too common, Topaz can be purchased and used forever for the price of $299. This price also includes weekly updates for a full year to keep the app updated with the latest improvements and additions.

Existing Topaz users who are working on an expired license can also renew to receive the new upgrade, or simply continue to use the current version, which is refreshing.
