Adding to its mobile-centric Z-Finder smartphone camera cage and viewfinder, Zacuto has announced the Micro Boom, a lightweight, telescoping mic extension for capturing the best audio during an interview.
Designed to function as an on-camera boom operator, the Micro Boom is a lightweight, telescoping boom pole that uses the smaller 3.5mm audio cable to connect smaller microphones for off-camera sound.
This makes it ideal for capturing interviews on the fly, without having to pause to mic a subject up thereby giving them time to try and formulate their responses. The result is a more natural interview that doesn’t sacrifice sound quality.
The Micro Boom has a telescopic range of 14-35 inches and is made from lightweight carbon fiber, which makes the mic extension extremely lightweight. It only weighs about 6 ounces(170 grams).
This enables the camera operators to have a microphone that is within close proximity of the subject without using a boom operator or taking time out to mic the subject up. It gets the mic in the right position within seconds, making it faster than any other microphone solution.
The Micro Boom can be mounted via NATO RAIL or optional CUBE Nato to cold show adapter.
It is compatible with all cameras including mobile phones, mirrorless, camcorders, EN, or Cinema Cameras.
The Micro Boom is easy to set up and attach to a camera, and then adjust to its correct position.
The boom pole has a quick release, adjustable connection to vary the angle of the extension to keep any microphones out of the image frame, and an internally cabled 1/8” mini jack connection.
For those looking to use their XLR mics, a minijack to XLR adapter will solve that problem.
Zacuto also introduced the Micro Mixer, an onboard dual-channel microphone mixer specifically designed for mobile smartphone content creation that can also work with any camera setup.
The Micro Mixer has a dual channel design to input up to two different microphones or create stereo microphone setups.
It enables content creators to isolate individual voices or create a custom live mix during streaming. It is ideal for interviews, podcasting, or video production that requires mix-minus support.
It also has a compact, streamlined design for quick adjustments with hard switches and dials to set sound levels nearly instantly.
The Micro Mixer is roughly 2.2×1.9x.5 inches and weighs a very lightweight 1.1 ounces (31 grams).
Pricing and Availability
The Zacuto Micro Boom is available now for preorder for $125.00 for the first 150 orders. It will then go to $165.00 after shipping in March of 2024.
