Zeiss Just Dropped a New Line of Cine Primes for Mirrorless Users

Zeiss has just announced a new line of high-speed cinema prime lenses specifically designed for full-frame mirrorless camera users. The Nano Prime family will have a constant aperture of T1.5 and comes with six lenses covering an overall focal length of 18mm-100mm.

“With the Nano Primes, “we are closing the gap between entry-level and high-end lenses,” explains cinematographer Christophe Casenave, Cinematography executive for Zeiss, “enabling all filmmakers to create a cinematic look even in this price segment.”

Developed as an entry-level cinema prime lens set for mirrorless camera users, the Nano Prime family is designed to offer versatile and high-performing cinematic images with shallow depth of field, and elegant bokeh.

The Nanos come in focal lengths including 18mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm.

The Nanos are designed with a Sony E-Mount lens mount, and thanks to the ZEISS Interchangeable Mount System, additional mounts can also be supported.

The Nano Primes are also designed to complement Zeiss Supreme Primes, making them ideal for B and C cameras or lower-budget productions. Moreover, with a compact and lightweight design, the Nano’s work well with drones and gimbals.

The Nano Primes also enjoy a close focusing distance with a gentle sharpness and focus fall-off. There is a long, 280° focus rotation for precision focus pulling and an iris ring with a 90° rotation and fine aperture adjustment of the lens’ 12-blade iris to produce elegant bokeh and true cinematic images.

The electronic interface transmits a host of lens metadata in real-time to the camera, including focal length, distance, and aperture values.

Additional metadata including distortion and vignetting can also be monitored through the Zeiss CinCraft Mapper, as well as the CinCraft Scenario camera tracking system.

The Nano Primes are also coated with an anti-reflective lens T-coating that the company says redefines what high performance means for Image brightness, twilight performance, and brilliance.

The lenses have also been rigorously tested and certified to be deployed in harsh conditions, and protected against – cold, rain, and other tough filming environments.
