Blackmagic has released a new version of DaVinci Resolve and Resolve Studio, with even more features that are sure to help workflows with greater organization, RAW timeline backups, and better transcription tools. But that isn’t even the half of it.
DaVinci Resolve 18.6.4 is the official name of the latest “dot upgrade” and it has a laundry list of features that most software developers would put in a major upload.
In addition to including transcription controls for media bins, the latest version of Blackmagic’s NLE offers user details for uploaded shared clips, a clip color filter in the lightbox workspace, and the ability to retain camera RAW settings with timeline backup.

There are also new scripting features for API support to convert a timeline to stereoscopic 3D, create stereo clips in the media pool, create, import, and restore cloud projects, and create subtitles from audio.
Blackmagic has also included support for its Blackmagic RAW SDK 3.6, and support for transcribing audio and clear transcription context menus for bins. There’s also a new media pool column to show where the media was uploaded from.
Blackmagic has also done some housekeeping, addressing several annoyances for video editors including incorrect trim cursors persisting outside the edit timeline, missing clip color filters in lightbox options, timeline backups not retaining RAW settings, and incorrect color trace behavior for timelines in the same project.
Moreover, advanced panel picker offset on some high-resolution displays has also been addressed, as well as fixing incorrect automation display scenarios after adding tracks.
Over on the Fusion Tab, Blackmagic has improved the effect’s software’s particle positions using image emitters and addressed an issue with updating Fusion overlay control positions, and USD loader trim and time scale issues for new assets. DaVinci’s overall performance and stability have also been improved.
Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 18.6.4 is available as a free download for both the limited free version of Resolve 18 and the complete version within DaVinci Resolve Studio from the Blackmagic Design Support Website.
Minimum operating system requirements include macOS 12 Monterey, Windows 10 Creators Update, or Linux through Rocky Linux 8.6 or CentOS 7.3.
For additional information, BMD recommends referring to the latest DaVinci Resolve Configuration Guide for your platform detailing support, including certified driver versions for third-party hardware.
