Wooden Camera now offers a custom-built articulating hinge setup for SmallHD Smart 5 camera monitors.
The hinge was specifically designed to align perfectly with the pinholes on any of the SmallHD Smart 5 Monitors while offering a convenient and stable way to tilt the camera screen up to 180 degrees while securely attaching various cameras through a standard mount.
Based on a similar design found on the Wooden Camera RED Komodo Top Mount, the hinge connects to any 3/8’-16 mounting points utilizing ARRI standard locating pins.

The upper attachment which connects to the Smart 5 monitor features a 1/4”-20 screw assembly with additional rubber padding for attaching a third spud for a quick release or by mounting to an optional 15mm rod clamp version.

The mount can also be integrated into additional connections such as a Canon C series camera mount or an ARCA Dovetail connection. The ARCA mount offers a 15mm mounting spud for a quick-release connection to remove the monitor on the fly.

The lower mount offers interlocking ridges with an integrated 1/4-20” screw for mounting to any standard Canon Accessory mount, including the hot shoe on the Canon C70, the C70 top handle, or the C70 Top Plate.

Lastly, when combined with the RED Komodo top mount, the ARCA Dovetail variant provides a direct connection to SmallHD monitors through a 1/4”-20 screw with rubber pads for integrating a third-party monitor.
The hinge can also be quickly released and attached to an optional ARCA Swiss top handle for a more mobile configuration.
Pricing and availability
All three variants of the Wooden Camera SmallHD Monitor hinge are available from Wooden Camera Direct or their authorized retailers, for a retail price of $85.00. Shipping is expected to occur 3-4 weeks after ordering. But in all candor, you can probably do the same thing with a $10 ball head.
