Sony is poised to announce a new mirrorless camera tomorrow.
The news comes from Sony’s YouTube channel which has already setup for a live stream with the title “Next generation creativity on the go.”
There isn’t much more in the way of details for the announcement, other than it is scheduled to go live on July 12th at 10:00 PM EDT.
Sony Alpha Rumors, however, is convinced that this will be an announcement of the new Sony A6700 mirrorless camera, and a new 70-200 GII macro lens, which they state is about a third smaller than the previous generation.
According to SAR, specs for the A6700 include a 26 MP APS-C sensor capable of capturing 4K video at up to 120 frames per second.
Other expected features include dual SD card slots, a micro HDMI port, and built-in artificial intelligence features.
And strangely, the A6700 may not have a fully articulating LCD touchscreen, much like has been standard on previous models.
The camera will also have a slightly larger body with a front dial under the shutter button for menu navigation and setting of aperture and shutter speeds.
Unconfirmed specs include multi-selector focus point control, 7-stop in-body image stabilization, and a 3.67 million dot OLED Electronic Viewfinder.
SAR has managed, though, to debunk the possibility of in-camera focus stacking. But at this point, who knows for sure?
One thing that SAR seems convinced of, however, is that the retail price of the A6700 will be slightly below the Fuji X-T5, which has a retail price of around $1700. So expect something around $1599 or thereabouts.
As for the 70-200 GII macro E-Mount lens, it will have an external zoom and weigh just under 50g less than the current generation GI 70-200.
The lens is also expected to be as compact as Canon’s RF 70-200 F/2.8 L IS USM Lens. No word, however, on what the retail price will be.
As a cherry on top, SAR hints that there will be a third surprise announcement, a “and one more thing” if you will. So tomorrow should be an exciting day for Sony, which has been uncharacteristically quiet over the last few months. Stay tuned here tomorrow for all the details.
