With the annual launch of the iPhone just six months away, there are plenty of leaks and rumors about what could be coming with the next-generation iPhone 15. Here’s a fast roundup of what we’ve heard buzzing around the interwebs.
A more powerful A17 Bionic Chip
Apple is working on a faster, A17 Bionic chip for the Pro and Pro Max which will take advantage of the three-nanometer manufacturing process.
By contrast, the base model iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will likely be upgraded to the current 4-nanometer A16 Bionic chip that was first used in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Up Periscope …
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, a new periscope telephoto lens may provide greater focal length through a 6x optical zoom in the iPhone 15 Pro Max models. To house this new periscope design, the so-called “camera hump” will need to be thicker.
There’s also talk that all iPhone 15 cameras will be upgraded to a Pro/Pro Max 48 mp sensor, regardless of model. This comes after a story that Sony is having difficulties keeping up with demand for the 48 mp sensor production.
Faster Displays …
All iPhone 15’s ProMotion screen displays will be bumped to 6.2 and 6.7” respectively according to the latest renderings, and are rumored to also have an adaptive refresh rate of 1 Hz to 120 Hz, much like the iPhone 13 and 14 Pro/Pro Max models.
Higher-end Pro/Max models may also enjoy always-on display technology. All models will be upgraded to Apple’s Dynamic Island adaptive “notch” technology.

The OLED screens are rumored to also have a more power-efficient display driver chip that’s manufactured in a 28 nm process, requiring less power consumption and providing improved battery life. Apple may have also finally cracked the under-display face ID detection design, but it won’t be featured until 2025.
Bye bye Lightning …
Apple may ditch Lightning for USB-C to comply with European Union requirements. But there is a catch. The charging speed and data transfer rates on the base models will be restricted to USB 2.0 for non-MFi-certified cables.
The full fast charging speed USB 3.2’s 20Gbps data transfer speed will only be available with the Pro/ProMax models through Apple’s 20-watt power brick
Other features
There may be a redesigned mute button that can double as an action button much like the Apple Watch does. An action button for the iPhone can do a variety of applications including starting a new note, starting a workout, and other action features.
Pro and Pro Max models could also benefit from upgrading to Wi-Fi 6E, according to recently leaked iPhone 15 Wi-Fi chip diagrams.
Other design features include a thinner, titanium-based frame, and a more rounded bevel design in the Pro/Pro Max models, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus will keep the existing flatter iPhone 14 bevel design.
Pricing and Availability
The rumored price is $100 more than the iPhone 14 Pro. That would be a base model starting at $1099, and up to $1599 for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. In addition, Apple could also add a powder blue and hot pink color option to the lineup. The iPhone 15 is expected to be rolled out in September, just in time for that coveted holiday shopping season.
Is any of this speculation accurate? Well, with Apple Rumors, some may be, others not so much. But as we get closer to the product launch, the rumors tend to hit the nail square on the head. So only time will tell.
