Lens manufacturer Irix has released a pair of E-Mount lenses as part of their Dragonfly line of high-end optics.
The lenses include the Dragonfly 150mm F/2.8 Macro, and the ultra-wide Dragonfly 15mm F/2.4 prime lens.
The new full-frame, manual focus lenses are designed with de-clickable aperture rings for silent focusing and smoother rotation, with less focus breathing.
The lenses are also weather-sealed for working in severe weather, which is bound to appeal to documentarians who spend their life out in the field on location.

Individually, the lenses have unique specs that set them apart from the other lenses in the collection.
The 150mm F/2.8 macro is a medium telephoto prime lens with a 1:1 magnification ratio and a 1.1’ minimum focusing range.
The larger design can do double duty for medium shots, while extreme close-ups can be achieved without the photographer getting too close or intrusive.
The lens offers a solid magnesium-aluminum allow construction with a rounded 11-blade iris aperture for smooth background bokeh.
The lens has 12 elements organized in nine groups, each with Iris’ patented Neutrino coating to suppress lens flare and ghosting while providing higher contrast and color accuracy.
The manual focus also has a focus lock mechanism to prevent unwanted focus shifts, and there is a depth-of-field scale for macro hyperfocal prefocusing.
Rounding out the specs is a tripod collar with an Arca-type tripod foot.

By contrast, the ultra-wide 15mm F2.4 Dragonfly is built for outdoor photography with its strengths in the opposite direction.
The wide-angle lens has 15 lens elements, arranged in 11 groups with two aspherical elements and one low-dispersion lens element.
With a 110-degree field of view, the 15mm lens promises edge-to-edge image sharpness and low image distortion.
Both lenses are available for Sony E-Mount but also support Nikon F, Canon EF, and Pentax K mounts.
Pricing and availability
The Irix 150mm F/2.8 Dragonfly and the Irix 15mm F/2.4 Dragonfly are both available for preorder at a retail price of $599 (€559.06) each for the next thirty days but will then go up to around $605 (€565.04). Both are expected to ship on June 20th, 2023.
