The FeiyuTech Pocket Camera has been pretty much a DJI clone, up until now, as the Feiyu Pocket 3 design detaches the camera and gimbal to wirelessly transmit and record 4K video from anywhere the camera can be placed.
The detachable camera module has built-in magnets and a special mounting mode for capturing unique angles with the same control while maintaining the same three-axis image stabilization.
Small enough to fit in your pocket, the Feiyu Pocket 3 can capture 4K video at up to 60 frames per second from a Sony 1/2.3 inch 12-megapixel CMOS Image sensor.
The image is captured at a bit rate of 120 MBps, and there is a 4x digital zoom. Other camera modes include 1080p full HD at up to 120 fps and slow motion that provides 4x slo-mo at 1080p and 8x slo-mo at 720p.
The 130-degree ultra wide angle lens offers a controllable tilt range of +/- 45° and a pan of between -95° and 50°. The camera is also able to roll about 260°.
Much like the DJI Pocket video camera, the Pocket 3 has a similar, yet compact 3-axis gimbal stabilizer for handheld video without shakes or blur.
But where the Feiyu Pocket 3 separates itself from the competition, is with the cordless detachable gimbal module, which enables users to place the camera just about anywhere and then use the handle to wirelessly control and monitor the camera remotely.
While magnets can attach the camera module to just about any metal surface, the camera can also be placed on an optional selfie stick or using standard sticky tape to place on a helmet or other surface.
The response time isn’t measured, but Feiyu Tech states that there is very little in the way of signal lag, with a “super fast response time that won’t feel any delay.”
The camera also has twin screens, with a modest 1.3-inch touchscreen IPS LCD on the control module, and a smaller .42” OLED touchscreen also mounted on the gimbal module.
The camera has a focus follow and AI object tracking mode which uses machine learning to lock in on the subject and follow them throughout the scene.
The camera can also be controlled remotely through a mobile device and the Feiyu Cam APP. A great feature here is gyroscopic control to move the gimbal simply by moving your phone.
The app also provides video editing functions including a break point record editing function which can begin trimming a video clip even while the camera is still recording.
Other key features include:
- Ultra-compact design that fits in your pocket
- 3-axis stabilization system for smooth, steady footage
- Time Lapse, Hyper lapse, and Motion Lapse modes.
- 4K/60fps video recording
- 120-degree ultra-wide-angle lens
- Touchscreen display for easy control
- Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for seamless connectivity
- Multiple shooting modes, including time-lapse, slow-motion, and panorama
As for battery life, the camera is able to continuously capture video for up to 270 minutes before needing a recharge.
Optional accessories include a Selfie style extension bar, phone holder, mini tripod, and a waterproof case with an IPX rating of 8 to keep the camera module dry at over 20 meters.
Currently being crowdfunded on Kickstarter, the Feiyu Pocket 3 can be backed for an early bird price of $319, which includes the Camera Gimbal and Remote Handle modules, Expansion Base, MiniTripod, Wrist Strap, Protective Case, USB Cable, and a storage bag.
Backers can also purchase the gimbal module separately for $219, the Waterproof case for $69, and an accessory pack that includes SD card readers, an extension bar, and a phone holder for an additional $59.
The estimated shipping date is May 2023.
