Heralding the sunsetting of its DSMC2 platform, RED has dropped the price of the 6K Dragon X cinema camera kit by up to ten thousand dollars.
The kit comes loaded to the gunnels with a Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 EF mount Art Lens, VLock I/O Expander, 4.7 inch RED Cinema Touch LCD, Red Mini Mag with G-Tech reader, duo D-Tap batteries, power supply, Outrigger handle, a hard shell pelican style case, and even more.
The Super35mm 6K Dragon brain provides uncropped 6K REDCODE RAW image captured at up to 75 frames per second.
The sensor is part of RED’s unified DSMC2 lineup that provides what the company says are near-limitless lens options supported by the DSMC2 system.
The 19.4 MP CMOS image sensor provides for up to 16.5+ stops of dynamic range at a resolution of 6144×3160, with aspect ratios ranging from 2.1 to 22:1. REDCODE RAW offers visually lossless image rendering at reduced data rates, that can be edited without transcoding through most nonlinear editing software programs.
The camera can also capture in Apple ProRes and Avid DNX as well and can capture higher frame rates and slow motion at lower resolutions.
REDs color management supports 33x33x33, 32x32x32, 26x26x26, and 17x17x17 3D LUTs plus user-programmable shaper 1D Luts and 16-bit image processing.
The DSMC2 expander module also supports variable 3D LUT outputs.
The aluminum EF mount has electrical contacts to pass on lens metadata and allow for electronic control of EF mount lenses, plus a V-Lock expander module allows for connections through HDMI and SDI, plus other interfaces and power inputs.
Built-in USB and auxiliary power outputs enable a variety of power options while limiting the number of power splitters and converters that can bog down the camera configuration while hand-held. There are also analog stereo inputs and a headphone jack.
This houses the included Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens with APS-C image circle and EF mount.
The lens has five super low dispersion lens elements, four aspherical lens elements, and a rounded 9-bladed aperture for smooth, professional bokeh.
The RED 4.7 inch Touch LCD provides a resolution of 1280×720, with a field of view of up to 160°. The LCD features multi-touch control with hard navigation buttons on the side, a brightness level of 400 nits, and a contrast ratio of 1000:1.
The LCD can mount directly onto the camera and supports a built-in mirror and image flip for monitoring while upside down for special applications. It is also designed for cable-free operation and can be tilted up to 240°.
The Duo C98 V-mount D-Tap battery supports 96Wh of battery capacity that can shoulder an overall load of up to 10 amps.
One D-Tap can also be used to charge the battery via an optional battery charger.
There is also circuit protection against overcharging and discharging, plus exposure to high temperatures and extreme environments.
