GODOX Unleashes Monster Knowled 1200Bi Light

Godox has just announced the release of the Knowled MG1200Bi LED COB light. The light, which was first showcased at IBC earlier in 2022, is now the flagship COB LED light from the camera accessories company, but with a proprietary mounting system, could be a bridge too far for some gaffers.

With a full power output of 1200 Watts across the entire 2800-6500K white balance range, the MG1200Bi relies on Godox COB technology for maintaining a consistent power draw throughout the day. The result is a maximum output of 78,800 Lux at a distance of 3 meters.

The MG1200Bi LED light is rated at CRI/TLCI ≥96, R15 at ≥ 92, and TM-30 RF at ≥92. It is IP54-certified for operating in foul weather of rain, fog, or any extreme conditions.

It offers four dimming curves Linear, S-curve, Exponential, and Logarithmic) and has a full-color display panel brightness of 600 nits.

There are also eleven lighting effects modes including flash, candlelight, TV, broken light bulb, cloudy day, fire, fireworks, explosions, welding, SOS, and camera strobe.

There are also a host of lighting effects modes for simulating a variety of lighting conditions, and the light is capable of .1% steps from 0-100%.

The light itself is free of controls, putting all the knobs on the attached ballast control module. There is, however, wireless control available through the Godox Light app or DMX512 computer control, and LumenRadio CRMX control with a built-in receiver.

The light can be controlled with Ethernet or an optional Godox RC11 wired remote controller.

There is also a locking Neutrik electric connector for safe connections that cannot be pulled out. Of course, that means that if someone trips over the cable, it could pull the light over and potentially damage it.

With a worldwide power compatibility of 100-240v, the MG1200Bi is compatible with the majority of worldwide electrical grids.

The MG1200Bi stays cool through Godox’ advanced heat dissipation system to ensure long-duration use. There are also four optional fan modes going from full speed to silent to cater to a variety of shooting scenarios.

The MG1200Bi uses the Godox G Mount for all modifiers, rather than a standard Bowens mount, meaning that users will have to invest in an entirely different modifier ecosystem.

Godox does say, however, that the G mount “communicates” with its modifiers so the light knows that mods are connected to it for a “safer and energy-saving shooting process.” This sounds like an excuse to force users to buy accessories.

The MG1200Bi LED light is available now for pre-order at a retail price of $3499 and comes with the light body, ballast controller, a 45-degree reflector, and all cables and covers.

It is contained within a roller case for easy transport. The light will be shipping in February of 2023 and is available from Godox direct and all authorized dealers.
