Venus Optics Ends the Year with the Release of UltraWide 6mm MFT with Zero Distortion

Venus Optics has had a very busy year when it comes to releasing new lenses, and for their final optics drop of 2022, the Chinese optics company has announced a new Laowa 6mm F2.0 Zero-D lens for the micro four-thirds market.

With a 121.9° field of view, this ultra-wide angle lens can capture landscapes, architecture, and even astrophotography with virtually no image distortion from a curved optical image.

“The Laowa 6mm f/2 Zero-D MFT is a breakthrough with its widest rectilinear option in the MFT market,” says the company press release.

“As an ultra-wide angle lens with only 188g weighted and 52mm long, this featherlight handy lens is ready to be your best travel partner. It opens up a lot of opportunities for you to use with compact MFT cameras, gimbals, drones, etc.”

Venus Optics also states that the lens provides the same image quality as their previously released 6mm T2.1 Cinema Lens, but with more to offer.

The rectilinear lens has 13 lens elements aligned in 9 groups, with two aspherical lens elements to minimize distortion at the edges of the image circle.

With a large aperture of F/2.0, the lens can capture great detail in low light, and provide a pleasant bokeh from its five aperture blades, which can also create Laowa’s iconic 10-point Sunstar when the aperture is completely stopped down.

The lens also has its own dedicated CPU chip to control the motor for autofocus and aperture adjustment, with reporting of metadata to the image processor to be written into the image EXIF data.

With a close focusing distance of 3.54 inches (9 cm), the lens can also create some incredible macro images and close-up shots. The .18x lens focus magnifier will automatically be engaged during the rotation of the lens focusing ring. The lens has a 58mm filter thread.

The lens is ideal for creating a sense of space in the tight confines of smaller areas. It is also compact and light enough at 6.35 ounces (188g) to be attached to an MFT drone camera to capture wider images from a bird’s eye view.

The Laowa 6mm F/2.0 Zero-D micro four-thirds lens is available now from the Venus Optics website directly, or from authorized dealers worldwide for a retail price of $499 USD (varies depending on the country). Search for the nearest distributor here.
