Today, Sony announced the ZV-1F pocket-sized vlogging camera. The camera is designed for content creators looking to make a visual impact on social media sites like YouTube, TikTok, and others, and captures High quality 4K video and 20.1-megapixel stills.
“With the rise of vertical video and new platforms that make it easier than ever to become a content creator, the ZV-1F is an all-in-one camera solution that delivers superior quality with easy-to-use features and wireless sharing,” said Yang Cheng, Vice President, of Imaging Solutions, Sony Electronics Inc.
“This is the perfect solution for content creators looking to improve their video quality.”
With an ultra-wide 20mm F2.0 prime lens, the ZV-1F looks to be tailor-made for holding at arm’s length in order to properly frame the subject in order to create your typical selfie-style vlogging content.
The quick lens provides bokeh for both 4K video and 20.1-megapixel stills, and the camera also has a background defocus function to quickly add more blur in order to make the subject easy to stand out from their surroundings while being ideally framed within the scene.
With a pull-out vari-angle LCD touch screen, the ZV-1F is capable of keeping the subject in focus while shooting in selfie mode, while also making it easy to access settings and adjust the digital zoom for tighter framing.
There are also ten preset Creative Look options to give the video a bit of cinematic pizazz, and a soft skin effect to add some skin smoothing options. The camera can also be titled vertically, in order to capture that TikTok style aspect ratio.
Autofocus features include Eye AF autofocus for humans and animals, and Face Priority auto exposure in order to adjust the brights to capture every detail of the subject’s face, even in situations where the lighting may change while the subject is moving around.
The ZV-1F also enjoys Active Mode image stabilization, which Sony says keeps footage steady and smooth while on the move, and there’s also S&Q mode to shoot slow motion footage at 5x slower speed or quick motion at 60x faster hyperlapse speed for that Benny Hill look.
The ZV-1F also has a directional, three-capsule microphone with a dead cat windscreen which is designed to focus in on the voice by reducing background noise in loud, ambient surroundings or windy conditions.
But in those situations where an external microphone makes more sense, the ZV-1F still has an accessory cold shoe for easy attachment.
The ZV-1F also connects effortlessly with Sony’s new Imaging Edge Mobile Plus app, to enable remote control of the camera, and provide simple file transfer to social media platforms and upload to the cloud.
There’s also an interesting Shot Mark feature which enables the creator to reference key clips or cut out and transfer specific 15, 30, or 60-second marked clips to their smartphone and post directly to social without editing.
The Sony ZV-1F will be available in either black or white throughout North America later in October for a retail price of $498 US ($650 CA). More details can be found on the Sony EV-1F website.
