DJI has announced the Osmo Mobile 6 smartphone gimbal handheld stabilizer. The next-gen gimbal offers new dynamic features and improvements including a quick launch feature and enhanced Fifth generation dynamic tracking.
The portable and collapsible OM6 has a redesigned handle for an improved ergonomic comfort grip, and a larger smartphone clamp to accommodate larger-sized mobile devices, even when housed in their protective case.
This new size eliminates the need to remove the phone’s protective hardshell when seeking to capture the action, while still being compact enough to fit in a front pocket.
The OM6 comes with an extendable rod built in to expand the reach of the smartphone and achieve better-framed selfies and more interesting camera angles.
The OM6 also has a three-axis stabilization mechanism driven by quiet and powerful stepper motors to keep the camera image properly dampened and steady, even over the roughest terrain.
The new OM6 Quick Launch feature automatically triggers the DJI Mimi app on the phone once the gimbal is unfolded and the smartphone is installed in place.
So the shooter can capture the moment instantly, rather than hunting through the phone’s apps to find and open it. The result is the device is up and running three times quicker than previous models.
Advanced features operating through the amino app include Dynamic Track 5, with improved tracking at longer distances, and when the subject makes sudden movements to the side or turns around.
AT5 also enables the front-facing camera to lock onto the subject when capturing selfies.
There are also four additional gimbal modes including:
- Follow: Follows the gimbal’s pan and tilt movements and stay level.
- Tilt Lock: Follows the gimbal’s pan movement and stays stable during tilts and rolls.
- FPV: All three axes of the gimbal follow the movement of the handle.
- SpinShot: Push the joystick to the left or right to control the rotation of the camera view and create dynamic footage. It’s perfect for shooting push, pull, and high-angle shots.
Each mode can be triggered through the use of an “M” mode button and there’s a status menu to show which mode is active, plus status features including battery life.
Moreover, users can control zoom and focus with the side-mounted control wheel. This new feature will enable content creators to create cinematic quality camera moves like the dolly move perfected by Alfred Hitchcock and Steven Spielberg.
Osmo Mobile 6 users can also take advantage of one-touch video editing through the Mimo app, which includes templates for creating professional-style videos that are easy for beginners, yet modifiable for more advanced users.
The retail price of the DJI Osmo Mobile 6 is $159 and includes the magnetic clamp, tripod, power cable, and storage pouch.
