Atomos Announces Heavyweight Sumo 19-inch SE HDR Monitor, Recorder, and Switcher

Atomos has announced the new Sumo 19-inch SE HDR Monitor, Recorder, and Switcher. With a full HD QLED touchscreen display capable of up to 1200 nits of brightness. An upgrade over the IPS LCD screen of the previous generation.

The Sumo has four 12G-SDI inputs, and a single HDMI 2.0 input (pity they didn’t go for HDMI 2.1 to future proof it), and is capable of recording up to four separate streams in either ProRes Raw or 10-bit ProRes 422 Raw, with a fifth ‘program’ channel of your switched feed. And recordings can be preserved with data rates of up to 1.8Gbs, 220MB/s.

Switching is also completely asynchronous, eliminating the need for additional genlock sources and allowing for a wider range of affordable cameras.

Sumo can easily output the switched feed using Atomos Connect 4K for live streaming to the cloud, and camera to cloud services.

In addition, the Sumo can record in DNxHR, RAW, Log, PG, and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) outputs.

The Sumo also has live four-channel HD switching with SDI genlock and LTC timecode and balanced audio recording capability.

Mic or line-level audio can be easily synchronized with embedded audio from HDMI and SDI sources.

In addition, the Sumo can take input from camera and gaming consoles, and record directly in 10-bit color. The Sumo also enjoys a display with 10+ stops of HDR dynamic range and is powered through two 48-volt full-size XLR inputs. There are also connections for two external microphones.

On-board tools include gain controls, dedicated meters, and adjustments for frame delay on each channel. Sumo 19 is compatible with the Sony FS series, Canon C300MKII/C500 or Panasonic EVA-1/Varicam LT, and many more.

The monitor is also large enough to replace multiple rack-mounted monitors, saving space and energy consumption. The Sumo 19 Inch Monitor/Recorder/Switcher acts as a jack of all trades monitor, whether on location or in the studio.

The retail price of the Sumo 19 is $1995 and it’s available now.
