Since ARRI launched the ALEXA 35 with its new 24V B Mount battery system, the company hopes that 24V power will become an adopted standard. Anton/Bauer looks to be on board with that notion through the announcement of the DIONIC 26V B-Mount batteries.
Developed in cooperation with ARRI, the new DIONIC 26V B Mount battery can offer up to 240 watts of reliable and efficient power. The batteries come in both 98-watt hour and 240-watt hour batteries, and Anton Bauer has designed a quad charger to recharge up to four batteries simultaneously.
They’ve also built a series of mounting plates to use with a variety of cameras and LED lighting designs.
“Our rental partners can now provide a complete native 26V solution for customers to power their entire shoot, including power-intensive LED lights and high-end cine cameras,” said Andrew Hutton, Anton/Bauer product manager.
“The DIONIC 26V series is a perfect example of Anton/Bauer’s continued commitment to engineer and deliver effective solutions to meet the workflow requirements of cinematographers.”
Designed to drive the higher power needs of 8K cinema cameras and super bright LED studio lights, the AB DIONIC 26V B-Mount battery enjoys a more compact and lighter weight form factor than other batteries in the category.
This lighter-weight design gives camera operators a more nimble footprint while keeping the camera on the move when needed.
The B-Mount batteries are also hot-swappable as a backup power solution for VCLX block-style batteries, keeping cameras up and running all day, rather than powering them down to swap out depleted battery cells.
The DIONIC B-Mount battery chargers provide rapid charging in around 90 minutes for a 98Wh battery or about 3.5 hours for the full-sized 240Wh battery. However, this is three times faster than the dual-voltage or regulated 26V batteries of the competition.
The batteries are crafted out of an ultra-high strength polycarbonate blend. Pasko says that this design decision enables the DIONIC B-Mount to maintain the highest performance level in the most demanding of conditions, including extreme heat and cold, which could sap a power cell of its charge.
“We chose (a) native 26V configuration, (which) balances cell usage and requires for circuit boards packed on top of the cells, which significantly reduces heat,” Pasko added. “As a result, native 26V batteries have many more charge cycles in their lifetime than “regulated, or dual-voltage batteries for a superior return on investment.”
The DIONIC 26V Mount system is now available for preorder at Anton/Bauer dealers for around for $750 for the 98Wh system and $1025 for the 240Wh system. The Quad Charger retails for $1480.
