Meike has announced a new and affordable 50mm F0.95 APS-C Prime lens for mirrorless cameras. The lens has a 35mm equivalent field of view of 80mm and is fully manual.
Popularly nicknamed the “Nifty Fifty” by photographers, 50mm F.095 is super fast and offers an exceptionally shallow depth of field. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 1.48 feet (.45 meters).
Constructed of several elements in five groups, the 50mm F0.95 APS-C Prime has a 13-bladed aperture for nice, circular bokeh that has a swirling background pattern to interest the viewer. The lens has an aperture range of F/.095 to F/16. One can imagine that with a minimum aperture of F0.95, this nifty fifty performs exceedingly well in low light.
The weight of the lens is just under one pound (420 grams), but Meike stops short of publishing other dimensions save one … it has a 62mm front filter screw size. But the company did publish a series of sample photos to show just how well the lens performs under a variety of conditions.
The 50mm F.095 is the fifth lens announced by Meike in the last month, including a 7.5mm F2.8, a 12mm F2 APS-C lens, an 8mm F2.8 lens, and last week, they previewed an 85mm F1.8 autofocus lens. All hovering around the price point of under $400, which seems to be the butter zone for low-cost glass in Meike’s catalog.
With a slogan of “realize your vision,” Meike has been creating high-performance, yet low-cost lenses. These manual prime lenses are an ideal tool for budding filmmakers to cut their teeth on image composition, with Meike’s more professional-grade Cinema lenses waiting in the wings when the content creator is looking to take the next step in crafting a major cinema project.
The lens is available from Meike’s direct website for E-mount, X-Mount, EFM, Z-mount, and micro four-thirds cameras. The retail price of the Meike 50mm F0.95 APS-C Prime is $249.00 and it is available now, except for the Z-Mount, which appears to be currently out of stock.
