Kickstarter is chocked full of crazy ideas for cameras and electronics which otherwise couldn’t possibly see the shelves of a camera store. The SPINN CW.01 camera cloth is one such idea that may actually be onto something.
Made of a unique hook and loop fabric, the SPINN CW1 wraps around a camera lens, camera, or even tablet or laptop, much like an envelope. In doing so, the hook and loop design attached to itself like velcro, keeping the device protected and free from slipping out.
The basic premise of the CW1 is to add an extra layer of protection for those sensitive electronics and cameras, even while traveling.
The padded adhesive fabric provides a soft, interior to prevent scratching, while the outside layer will attach to itself to keep the fabric tightly wrapped around whatever is inside.
This extra measure of protection will guard against impact, or the elements while avoiding losing track of additional parts like lens caps. Let’s face it, we’ve all lost a lens cap every once in a while.
There also looks to be a shoulder strap that can attach to keep the lens and camera protected and close to the body. The self-adhesive hook and loop fabric, also keep the item protected inside tightly wrapped up so it can’t slip out or work its way out of the folded envelop package.
And as if to underscore how firm the adhesive fabric holds, the creators of the SPINN CW01 placed a 13” Macbook Pro inside and violently shook it to show that the laptop wasn’t going anywhere.
Meanwhile, the interior of the fabric is as soft as microfiber, so that it can be used to clean sensitive optics on a camera lens, computer screen, or even a pair of sunglasses.
The SPIN CW1 comes in three separate sizes, S (11×11”), M (15×15”), and L (19 x 19”). The Small is ideal for camera lenses up to 130mm in length, cellphones, portable hard drives, and even small tablets. The Medium fits mirrorless cameras with a 24-100 zoom lens, or a single zoom up to 230mm in length.
It’ll also house mid-range iPads and binoculars. Meanwhile, the Large can house DSLRs with a 24-105 zoom, lenses up to 340 mm in length, tripods, or up to a 15” notebook computer.
The Earlybird Price to back the SPINN CW1 on Kickstarter starts at around $17 for a single small wrap, $20 for a Medium, or around $25 for a Large. The three-wrap set is just over $62 but could be $75 since supplies are limited in all categories.
Fulfillment and shipping are expected in September once the Kickstarter Campaign has concluded. And the campaign has already surpassed its stated goal, so manufacturing and shipping are all but assured.
