With the stated goal of achieving “the value of infinite viewing experience,” Samsung has announced the Viewfinity S8 Model S80PB 4K monitor for content creators and design professionals. The S8 promises to deliver a wide DCI-P3 color gamut of up to 98%, with a matte display to reduce light reflection.
“ViewFinity is the summation of Samsung’s goal to deliver the most precise and functional monitors to businesses who require pinpoint accuracy and consistency throughout their work,” said Hyesung Ha, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics.
“We are proud to offer this monitor to designers, artists, and professionals who will use our technology to create new ideas and experiences that realize their full potential.”
The Viewfinity S8 was the recipient of the 2022 Innovation Award Honors in computer peripherals from the Consumer Electronics Association (CES).
Available in 32-inch and 27-in models, the S8 is also HDR 600 for the 32” and HDR 400 for the 27”, by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) and offers a solid dynamic range for darker blacks and more detail in the shadows, and creamier, brighter whites.
The S8 has also been calibrated to ensure up to one billion colors are presented on the 4K IPS panel, and is Pantone validated to produce accurate skin tones. Its 178° horizontal and vertical viewing angle provides viewers with the ability to see images clearly from just about any angle.
Samsung has also designed the S8 with a 1000:1 contrast ratio, with a peak brightness of 600 nits. It also has an adaptive picture for automatic adjustment in brightness and color temperature, an eye saver mode that reduces blue light, and is flicker free to relieve constant eye strain.
The S8 connects to computers through a single USB Type C connection and can also function as an all-in-one dock for desktops or laptops being used as a desktop replacement.
The S8 is capable to be a pass-through for 10Gbps data transfers, has Ethernet 6, and provides fast charging with up to 90W of power. The S8 also utilizes Samsung’s Eco Savings Plus technology to reduce power consumption by up to 10%.
Other ports include 1 HDMI, 1 display port, and a USB 3 Hub. The S8 is also built upon a post stand that can swivel, tilt and pivot, with no additional charge for the privilege. The post design also provides for vertical screen rotation.
There’s no word on the retail price for the Viewfinity S8, however, there are advertised prices for Korea, which are as follows: 820,000 Won ($634) for the 32-inch model and 720,000 Won ($557) for the 27-inch model. So that’s a ballpark idea. The expected worldwide availability is for the end of June.
