Camera accessories company Meike is adding yet another lens to its ever-expanding lineup of photography and cinema glass, with an 8mm F2.8 ultra-wide micro four-thirds lens. The unit is fully manual and offers a 35mm equivalent to 16mm and an aperture range of F2.8-F22.
The 8mm F2.8 joins other new lenses in the Meike catalog including a 7.5mm f/2.8 lens for Micro Four Thirds, Sony E, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, and Canon EF-M mounts that have also been announced in 2022, as well as a 12mm f/2 APS-C for Sony E-mount APS-C cameras, Canon EF-M, Fujifilm X, Nikon Z, and Micro Four Thirds.
The 8mm F2.8 lens is constructed of 17 lens elements in 12 groups, with special multiple lens coatings to minimize chromatic aberration and lens flare.
The lens is capable of focusing close up at 10 inches and enjoys a diagonal angle of view of 109 degrees, a horizontal angle of view of 96 degrees, and a vertical angle of view of 80 degrees.
The lens has a special knurled focusing knob and a standard aperture control ring. The lens is designed with a micro-four thirds mount and has a filter size of 77mm. The lens is completely manual and offers no metadata transfer circuitry for use in post-production.
The lens retails for $400 and is available directly from Meike and their authorized retail network. Users can also save an additional $20 if pre-ordered before June 20th. The coupon code is “ONLY8MM.”
Rated faster than their current 8mm f3.5 model, the question remains whether this lens is in addition or if it will replace the slower lens model, especially considering that the F3.5 8mm has a retail price of around $230.
