Razer Announces 15” Laptop with an OLED Display and a 240hz Refresh Rate

Razer has announced a refresh to their 15” gaming laptop, which now has a QHD OLED display with a crazy 240Hz refresh rate, making it the world’s first OLED laptop capable of that refresh rate. Though aimed at the gaming market, much of the performance boost that comes from gaming can transfer directly into making this quite a handy editing laptop while on location.

In addition to its fast refresh rate, the Razer 15 OLED has a 1 ms response time. A peak brightness of up to 600 nits can be achieved, with a sustained brightness on average of 400 nits. The OLED screen enjoys a DCI-P3 rating of 100%, but there is no word how that translates to Adobe RGB performance. Still, if the DCI rating is at 100%, the Adobe rating has to be pretty good.

“[The OLED Blade 15 is] perfect for a variety of functions,” says Razer in their announcement, “including photo and video editing, watching movies, or playing AAA games”.

At the heart of the laptop is Intel’s 12th generation Alder Lake Core i9-12900H processor and an NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti GPU. In addition to the 240Hz refresh rate in QHD, the laptop can do straight 4K with 144Hz, and 1080p at 360Hz. Fast no matter what resolution you’re working at.

Consequently, all that performance can generate a lot of heat in an ultra-thin laptop. Razer has attached this problem through the use of “Vapor Chamber Cooling,” which dissipates heat through the evaporation and condensation of internal fluid.

Coupled with a pair of 88 blade fans and a redesigned heat sync, the laptop can squeeze every ounce of FPS out and stay cooler doing it.

Memory configurations can be equipped with 16GB DDR5 RAM (expandable to 32GB) and it comes with two M.2 SSD card slots and a 1TB SSD. The second slot obviously is reserved for expanded storage.

Other features include Thunderbolt 4, USB-C, USB-A, and HDMI ports, a 1080p webcam, and an SD card slot. The 15.2” laptop is super thin that .67 inches and weighs in at just under 5 pounds.

But all that performance and gamer style refresh doesn’t come cheap, as the Razer 15 retails for $3,500. But if you’re in the field and need the performance for putting together a rough cut, or just blowing off steam with a round of Fortnight, this laptop looks to be more than a match for the task.
