If Apple’s Studio Display is out of your price range, and you’re not up to converting a used iMac into a DIY solution, then Philips’ new 27” 4K Momentum 8000 monitor may be the option for you. Not only is offering incredible color accuracy and a 4K OLED screen, but may also be able to reach similar brightness levels as Apple’s latest. Sort of.
The Momentum 8000 monitor is no joke, with a DisplayHDR TrueBlack contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1 and a 99.7% PCI-D3 color space rating. Moreover, Philips’ crows that the Momentum 8000 offers a 99.6% rating for Adobe RGB, 119% for NTSC, and 150% sRGB. The 10-bit color depth mode also provides an incredible color gamut across the entire spectrum, while the monitor has a viewing angle of 178°.

At first glance, users might think that the 4K OLED screen is a bit dim, with a default brightness setting of 250 nits, but Philips says that the brightness can be dialed up all the way to a peak of 540 nits for HDR viewing.
Philips has also designed the screen to incorporate pixel-level dimming, in an effort to combat haloing and blooming which can distract from the viewing experience.
For ports, the Momentum 8000 offers are stacked with two HDMI 2.0 one DisplayPort 1.4, one USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C, one USB type-B, and four USB 3.2 Type-A fast-charge ports.
Sadly, Philips misses the opportunity to future-proof the Momentum 8000 with an HDMI 2.1 port, but that 8K spec will have its day. There are also KVM and MultiView switches, and a standard 3.5mm headphone jack on the back.

At a price tag of just over $1,000, the Dell Momentum 8000 monitor could be an ideal alternative to the Apple Studio Display for those who need a highly accurate color monitor but are on a limited budget. And you don’t have to pay extra to tilt it.
Shipping is listed “soon” in the US, with a launch first in Asia. Sadly, no word on if Europe will get their hands on it. Those who are interested can surf the Philips website to find where it will be available nearby.
